Renting near FLL

I haven't been around here too much lately. I went through a phase a couple years ago when I was gung-ho about flying for a living. I dragged my girlfriend to Florida to visit flight schools and spent hours and hours at jetcareers soaking up as much as I could about the reality of the business and not just getting my information from the academy brochures. I appreciate all the information that is available here.

I decided not to go the flying route but ended up working in the aviation business anyway (at NetJets). I got out of it for a while but recently had a job interview at an aircraft manufacturer in Fort Lauderdale. I don't know whether I'll be offered the job or whether it'll be a good offer if it does come, but I'm trying to do my homework just in case. One of the things I'm interested in is what experiences you all have had with renting from FBOs near FLL. Does anyone have both good aircraft AND good deals?

Thanks for any info you can pass my way!

Rick

Hi Kristie - thanks for the welcome! By the way, I looked at some of your video blogging from Germany. It was funny to see the videos, especially of Frankfurt because I used to live there.

The job is a marketing position at an aircraft manufacturer. The people seemed really nice when I was down there for the day. We'll see what happens. Wish me luck.

geez, that's pretty cool! so are you even flying recreationally then? I would suppose with the new job you might get a fairly nice discount on something eh?

good luck with the job! i hope someone on here will be able to help you with the FBO/FLL question.

I rent from NS Aviation (www.nsaviation.com) at HWO. Really nice small flight school with clean well maintained airplanes. (5 Cessna's, 1 of them is an RG) Very reasonable rates.
I have my own renters insurance which I got through AOPA and most FBO's require it.

Does your employer offer a flight club?? I know New Piper Aircraft in Vero Beach Florida had/has one, and thier rates are EXTREMELY CHEAP, something like $35.00 per flight hr. in an arrow/seminole.

Thanks for your replies. Well, I'm living in FLL now, working for Embraer. It's been great so far - I have a great impression of the company so far. I would really like to start flying again but I don't know if I can stomach spending so much money. Damn flying hobby!

NS is a nice place, Nick is a good guy. I am going to go back and get checked out in the 172, watch and laugh!
