Reno race crash in front of grandstands

Happened 100 feet in front of a friend of mine. I called and they are fine, but were so shaken up they couldn't talk on the phone.

Thats not good for the air race's at all. RIP to those who were lost.

This will change the way the race is run forever.

Where was this aircraft based? We have several P-51's on our airport but this isn't one of them.

Yup, that was my second thought. Whats really unfortunate is that it's the nature of the game. It's just been a bad couple of years for Reno. I just hope that this doesn't put them on an indefinite hold. It's one of those sports that you just have to accept the risk. As a participant and a spectator.

Reading the news updates I get angry. It's a risk though, for me airplanes go from point A to B. Or protect our skies flown by the people trained the best in the world. 80 yrs old and still racing I'm very surprised. I'm not an audrenaline junkie though like most pilots I know so I usually come up against opposition when I say my piece on aerobatics and taking high risks you're unsure of. This though I feel is medically tied. RIP.

Wow. That's horrible.

We'll see what happens to future events, but I hope this incident, although sad, does not cause the end of such an important event for the aviation community. There is a bit of an inherent risk in attending something like this, and you do need to be willing to accept that when you go to an airshow/race/whatever.

Prayers for all involved.
