Renew First class or not

So I am currently in a tough situation, last year I had actually posted on here because I was worried about obtaining a first class medical to start flight training due to some alcohol related incidents, well the FAA ended up sending me a first class medical with a letter stating any alcohol related incidents beyond this could result in a revoked, denial or suspended medical. Well it's been about 16 months since then, and I have finished flight training and now a flight instructor I have not renewed my medical so I have a first class with third class privileges which is all I need to flight instruct. However I have an airline interview in a couple of weeks that requires a current first class, the only problem is about 4 months ago I acted like a fool and got thrown in jail for disorderly conduct, criminal damage, littering, and assault. All misdemeanors and the case is pending. I have a lawyer and it is looking like most of the charges will be dropped. The issue I have is do I try to renew my medical and possibly get it revoked or do I continue flight instructing with my current medical. What should I do?!

1. I would wait for your lawyer to deal with this.
2. Seek some help for your alcohol abuse. You have a problem. I've seen the effects of substance abuse and it doesn't get better on its own.
 
He didn't say if alcohol was a factor in the most recent event, so I'd hold off from assuming it was.
 
p.m. me if you want to talk to another pilot about what you're going through. In the end, you'll be fine, but you have to draw the line in the sand.
 
Thanks for all the info, what would be the odds of walking out of the office with a renewed first class medical? What about the odds of them taking away the medical I already have and walking out with no medical!?
 
You don't have to have a medical to flight instruct as long as its not primary instruction or instrument training in simulated or actually conditions. I'm sure you already know this but your odds of being hired with any respectable company is going down the tube if you don't straighten up.
