Licensed pilots (Part 61, etc.) may take the Part 107 online test. When passed your results will be sent to FAA. They will verify your TSA background check and then notify you of your results which will grant you a "type rating" (their term not mine) as a Remote Pilot Airman. This can't be issued through FSDO, signed off by a CFI or DPE, or granted by Obama. Part 107 becomes effective on August 29th, so even though you passed online written, you can't exercise those privileges or operate under those regulations.
What can you do? Operate an sUAS for compensation if it is below 55 pounds gross weight, below 100 mph ground speed, and under 400' AGL UNLESS it is within 400' horizontally of a structure, and then up to 400' above the highest point on that structure. Operations within Classes B, C, D and E airspace with required ATC permission, and Class G without permission. Day VMC, line of sight, no visual observer required. Otherwise Section 333 exemption and possible COA is required for night, IMC, BVLOS, higher, bigger, faster than previously mentioned, over people.
