Remember flying in the 90s?

Shortly before the 90's but a really fond memory nonetheless:

1988 (?) Northwest was the doing pre-cert flights in the 747-400. I was in 7th grade. NW was training crews on the MSP-PHX route. I remember seeing that airplane parked at the gate for the first time at the gate in MSP after my flight from Boston. I almost wet my pants I was so excited. I'd been looking at 747's for as long as I could remember. I hadn't been on one in recent memory, though my parents would talk about flying back from the Philippines on them quite regularly.

I remember entering the airplane and being amazed at the size. The best part was having an entire exit row to myself. Now, all that stuff is done in sims, and mock-ups, I think.... But I got to do that flight in the 744 four times, and every time I see a 744, I think fondly of my days travelling unaccompanied as a youngin.

And... 727's... There is something incredibly nostalgic about that airplane. THAT is one airplane that I truly miss.

Oh, you only rode sideways on the 727 at Southernjets? I bet it was still awesome.

Yup, just sidesaddle. Could have upgraded to FO but had way better seniority in MCO on the 737. I lived in MCO at the time and the choice was fairly obvious! :)

Of course, during my interview, the captain mentioned that I'd be a seven-year 727 captain with the growth, most likely. (*giggle*)

Yeah, and on 9/10/01 I had almost 1000 people junior to me, classes of 50 going through every WEEK... there was no WAY I could get furloughed, and I'd be doing international within 3 years.... (*giggle*) indeed... :)

One thing I don't miss about the 90's - United's paint scheme:

Lots of great memories growing up with that pic!

I really miss seeing those guys around. It was awesome during the .com bubble when San Jose was just this super busy downtown airport. My mom's friend in San Jose used to take me out to the observation deck in the old terminal C or to a park by the runway, and I'd see these smokey MD-80s, 87s, and 90s screaming by. Loved those colors, they sort of made me proud since, other than United, it was the only airline with a real large hub operation out of the Bay Area. In fact, SJC even surpassed RNO in flights in the airlines last years, thus becoming the operational hub for the airline. Reno Air even had a regional for a while, Reno Air Express op. by Mid Pacific Air, that flew JS-31s on a bunch of routes out of SJC Skywest serves out of SFO. Sad to see the airport almost a ghost town now a days.

Reno Air was a great airline, and is greatly missed here in Northern Nevada. My Dad used to jumpseat on QQ and really appreciated them when he lived in Incline Village and was LAX based. He used to talk about how friendly the pilots were.
They used to always put me in first on ID-90s between SNA and RNO too, on their brand new MD-90s. just like I had a full fare ticket. They really tried to put all local catering items on board, I remember the chips and salsa, margarita mix, bloody mary mix, all were made by restaurants and suppliers in Reno. Great staff, just all around great memories of that little airline.

I remember traveling to KCLT when USAir first became USAirways and being so hungry from traveling due to a lack of layover times and eating my first onboard meal which, consisted of nothing more than a sandwhich, chips and something else but it was so good. This may sound dorky but I even kept the little USAiways meal box if anyone remebers that. I also remember traveling around before cell phones existed and the person seated next to you couldn't shout into their phone because it didn't even exist ( I know that there were cell phones in 1997 but not like today).
