"Remarks" section of logbook when CFIing.

Its all semantics but one of the "conditions of flight" that allows you to log PIC alongside your student (if they are post-private) is acting as an authorized instructor 61.51(e)3 ..when conducting flight training, ie dual 61.1

You don't have to log it but I can't think of any reasons why you wouldn't.

I log the student's first initial and last name and maneuvers practiced. I do it immediately after I log it in the students logbook. Its a good record if your student ever does anything stupid.

Well I don't ever remember seeing a reg saying you must log dual given, so I suppose you don't need to if you don't want to. I would like to think that it helped me get a better CFI position to have it logged though. But at any rate, I still think its a good idea to put something there when you are instructing.
Nobody said it's not a good idea - it's useful for all sorts of things - just that it isn't required.

True story: some years ago (I'm thinking maybe 10 or so?), the FAA floated the idea of including a "dual given" box on the 8710 for CFI renewals - until someone pointed out it wasn't required to be logged.

That definately is interesting. I suppose if I never get my foot in the door at an airline or cargo op and I become a career CFI, then after a few years I may not really care how much IP time I have anymore!:laff:

Or you might care more - the DPE application does ask for time instructing.
