Remain within 10NM

What fix does the " Remain within 10NM " refer to in the profile view of a TPP chart? Based on my research, it is in reference to the FAF as shown in the profile view, but cannot find a concrete answer in any "official" FAA publication. I have seen several approach plates that say, "Remain within 15NM" but still show a 10NM ring in the plan view, which is what I was taught to use for the boundry for the PT. Thanks for any input.

It's always the fix where the outbound course originates in the profile view. It's often the FAF, but I wouldn't bet that's always the case.

so I understand you would remain within 10NM of the 14 DME fix, correct?
Where is that information found? The IPH is very vague on the subject.

On the profile view.

It's just a chart reading issue and not every FAA reference, not even the Chart Users Guide, covers everything that the chart is meant to depict..

Good question. I seem to recall it documented somewhere; I'll have to research that.
The question came up in another forum (seems to happen a lot) and one poster made reference to AIM 5-4-9 a.2.

When the approach procedure involves a procedure turn, a maximum speed of not greater than 200 knots (IAS) should be observed from first overheading the course reversal IAF through the procedure turn maneuver to ensure containment within the obstruction clearance area. Pilots should begin the outbound turn immediately after passing the procedure turn fix. The procedure turn maneuver must be executed within the distance specified in the profile view. The normal procedure turn distance is 10 miles. This may be reduced to a minimum of 5 miles where only Category A or helicopter aircraft are to be operated or increased to as much as 15 miles to accommodate high performance aircraft

True, it doesn't sepcifically say "The procedure turn maneuver must be executed within the distance from the procedure turn fix specified in the profile view," but between the obvious (the fix that defines the PT you are doing when you stay within 10 NM) and a guess (some other fix on the chart has nothing to do with the PT), I guess I'll go with the obvious.
