Registration time...

So, if you ever fly for an airline, and you are scheduled to fly Friday, Saturday and Sunday, what are you going to do? Not go, becuase you don't like flying on the weekends? If that's the case, you might have to reconsider your career. I know this is college, and I go out Thur/Fri/Sat night's, too, but that doesn't stop me from not flying or going to work the next day. One of the reason's people don't finish on-time is becuase they don't fly on the weekend's, when the sky is clear and it is less busy, and then we at dispatch get to hear the student wine about how he's not going to finish on-time or becuase he's not going to get a bonus point in ground school, because we just had to MX cancel him at his permanent launch on a Monday.

Not trying to start a war here or anything, that's just my opinion. Happy Flying;-)

UND is NOT an airline. I wish students and CFIs would get that idea out of their minds. This is NOT an airline.

I respect your opinion, nonetheless. I'm disciplined enough to have my priorities straight.

Yup, we are not in the airlines right now! We have some sort of flexibility in terms of how we want to fly. Thats why I didn't pick TRS flight lab. Yeah, its almost guaranteed you will be weathered in. But I wouldn't go out of my way to fly on Saturdays. Thats just my point. I can see other UND'ers whose obsession might be aviation. They most likely will want to fly everyday, but aviation is my passion. I definitely love it and you betcha I will fly whenever I am given the opportunity once hired by an airline.

you guys will learn when you get to multi or CFI that if you don't fly any day that the weather is flyable, you won't get finished on time. don't whine when it happens.

Some people like going to bed early on the weekends so they can stuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuudy! Booooooooring.

Just wait until you do CFI. There will be times that you will lock yourself in a room on a friday night while all of your friends are out so you can just get caught up with work.

I didn't think it was THAT bad, and I took it with skrammy over summer, I finished on time too.

If you REALLY want to get ALL your bonus points and finish early (or even just on time) schedule and EARLY morning MWF launch (and actually show up!) then schedule afternoons and saturdays with your instructor as well (and sunday if your instructor is willing) but biggest of all don't be a wimp about the weather. You'd be amazed at how many students will cancel when its BKN 030 or SCT 025 and clear 5 miles away, or when the winds are high but right down the pipe. The best way to learn is to establish personal minimums and drive your expirience and learning to LOWER them. I'm not saying push the limits or be careless - but its funny how the airlines come back to us after hiring some UND pilots and say we're weather wusses - and we train in ND!! I think we have ALL decided to take a nap in our warm room rather than go learn and fly when the weather is marginal. Just my 2 cents! ;)

Sucks when your instructor is a wuss too. I know he was probably just trying to cover his own butt, however I was getting way behind in 221 there for a while. I remeber one instance where I was just supposed to go up and do landings and the weather was right at UND minimums with a 500 foot drop in the clouds predicted an hour later. Needless to say he didnt let me go and I had to use a perfect day that I could have done my long cross country on. Had to wait 2 weeks to try it again. It was totally unneccessary. Oh well.

man, trying to get actual at UND is a joke.

OMG it's below freezing!! can't go in the clouds today even though it's a 2000' ceiling!!!!!!

how long were you planning on being up? doesn't sound like a wuss to me, i wouldn't let an ink-wet private pilot go on that forecast, either.

I came up here as a private pilot with 98 hours(130 at the time of this flight). Hardly ink wet. UND's mins are 3000 right? Is 2500 a dangerous situation? I sure as heck dont think so. Not for pattern work anyway. I just needed night currency if I remember right, so it might have taken a half hour tops.

It doesnt really matter now since everything worked out ok, but I was pretty annoyed at the time.

for close traffic?
the UND minimums as he said are already high, seems perfectly safe to me.

dude the GFK flight support mins were even higher, something like 5 miles vis, I can't remember.

I like UND's advertisement in the December issue of AOPA Flight Training magazine...

UND AEROSPACE
WANTED: Looking for pilot's to fly in all kinds of weather conditions!

does the fine print say "as long as it's clear and a million and you're dual"?

oh, my best weathering story was when me and my instructor (a friend of mine) decided to go out for some Panda Buffet before a flight. We both ate waaaaaay to much and I convinced the SOF that I thought 17 knots was too windy for me to go practice single engine stuff :-D

You should've been honest and told them that you might be getting the •s. It's a safety concern.....hehehehe. Panda...egggggggggggh

Eeeeeeeew Panda Buffet is nasty. There are no real Chinese Restaurants here in Grand Forks. I avoid them. Pretty sad huh! This city sucks donkey balls.

Yeah, Panda Buffet is pretty nasty. China Garden is actually not too bad, hell of a lot better than Panda! The food still sucks compared to other cities, but that's what we get for living in Grand Forks...:buck:

Anyone going flying today? It's beautiful out!!:sarcasm: BTW, if someone is still looking to get out of this damn state for Thanksgiving, you guy's should check NWA and UAL, they have some pretty damn good fares out of FAR right now!

Oh man, I would love to go up in this stuff, seriously. I dont like where the freezing level is right now though. At the ground, and UND is still not going no-fly! 32 degrees, plus snow? I think thats asking for problems. But if the freezing level was say around 4000, you bet I'd be up in this. I want some damn actual so bad. I dont know what it is with me and the hood, but I rock at flying intruments in the clouds. That hood just messes me up for some reason, even at night. Could be that Im looking down with the hood or something.

As far as chinese resturants, dont go. Im usually hit or miss with chinese food as it is, but here? Keep me away from them. Some stuff is still alright with me though.
