Regional or Corperate

My brother is Flight instructing at Bowling Green State University. Soon he will be graduating. I was wondering which would be a better opption. To go into corperate flying or regional.

Corporate all the way from what I hear. Better pay, better security, benefits etc. You fly less hours, usually on call a lot too. But I also hear its tough to get into Corporate flying, its more of who you know. Most CP Pilots are referred I believe. Maybe somebody else can tell you more, but if I had the choice of Corporate over Regional, I'd take Corporate in a heartbeat.

Regional! You can't PFT into corporate; and there's many more regional pilot mills than there are corporate.

Corporate is a lot harder to get into than the regionals.

At the same time, if you know the right people you could get a corporate gig w/ far less hours.

But, in all honesty it all comes down to QOL. Many corporate pilots are CP's for life, while regional guys move on to the major airlines. Airlines like to see 121 experience, something you can't get as a CP. Not to say that no CP's will ever be hired by a 121 op, but generally that's how it works.

Regionals aren't airlines? Some sort of "B team"?

For clarification: I think you are defining "CP" as "Co-pilot." Most in the industry define CP as "Chief Pilot. Just thought you'd like to know.

CP=Chief Pilot
ACP=Asst Chief Pilot
DO= Director of Operations
FO=Co-pilot

Urban legend. Many corp pilots move on to airlines. The 121 time is mostly a myth. Quality, large department corp time is just as good.

What (major) airlines are wanting now is turbine/jet PIC time. Something that is abundant in corp ops but non-existent as a 121 FO. Although NJA isn't your typical flight department, we have had MANY pilots move on to most of the majors.....

Upgrade is so long at some regionals! Look at the post MRVC had about Skywest upgrades.
PS. Regional airplanes are so much slower then corporate airplanes too.

Corporate.

There is nothing sexier than a G-V...(except maybe the flight attendant).

compared to the Citation X going at .92mach, you are.

I suggest your friend keep his options open. Especially so early on in his career, he shouldnt limit his opportunities.

Sorry to take this off-topic, but if you do really want to work for the US government, you should know that "CTU" is not a real government agency, and "24," although entertaining, is far from the realities of gov't work. Sorry if you were just kidding in your profile. No biggy if you weren't - plenty of people think "CTU" exists, and I always end up feeling like the guy who tells their kids that there's no Santa Clause.

Heck, we can do .82 with the Mach trim inop.

KA...Nice to know we can have some honest ribbing in here.

You better be going fast, you're sitting in a cockpit the size of a recently in the news Cessna....the 150.

Aww, I kind of thought the studs who were bragging about barely climbing at 290 KIAS and then blasting thru the skies at .80 were entertaining!

Oh yeah? Well the (insert manufacturer here) jet has race-inspired carbon fiber brakes!
