Regional FO's to majors

But that means that you still had 1500-2000 total PIC. A lot of FOs out there have about 150 hours of PIC and that is all with a flight instructor sitting next to them. I'm not saying that it can't be done, but I think a person's odds of getting a look are still much higher if he or she has PIC.

It's also worth noting that the hiring picture I posted says PIC, not Turbine PIC. I am assuming it is written that way for a reason and it should definitely give hope to people who built hours somewhere before getting hired at a Regional.
I'm mil with a few months of regional time. When I got hired I was at about 2200 TT and under 1k tpic...Counting non turbine pic and all of it I was under 1100 pic

It's good to hear that the fabled "right seat to right seat" is actually happening, but if you are counting on it to be you I think you might be wasting your own time. I've heard way too much of this kinda stuff from friends:

"well, even though blankity-blank regional that I work for has a 500 year upgrade, I'll just sit here and plan on right seat to right seat."

For one thing, it's not happening on a large enough level to be a smart bet, and for two, I bet the people who do make it happen are a lot more pro-active about it than sitting and waiting.

I only personally know three people who have moved from the right seat of a regional to the right seat of a legacy, and they had resumes that would have made them competitive for the Apollo program.

When you hear about the person that was nothing special and "just got lucky with getting a call," they're usually just being humble and not regaling you with stories of what it's like to sit on Habitat for Humanity's board because they're not a braggart.

Which is why I listed the number- 170 in six months from my airline. Not enough to account for this.
Now they do group LLCs and foreign carriers in with majors.
They do not break down by seat those going to each carrier, just the totals.

On the flip side regional hopping to chase the fast upgrade can be like playing Russian roulette. Upgrade times can change at the drop of the hat. Mergers happen- and probably will in the FFD realm. A pilot caught in a merger just after a lateral move could really get hosed.
So the point is to always evaluate your career. Understand the benefits and pitfalls of different moves.

I know of at least two in my relatively small circle that went (high time, 5-6+ years in the right seat) to UA. I knew them pretty well and basically what set them apart from the hoards of people with a 4 year and a few thousand hours of SIC was the fact that these guys were super motivated. They hit every, literally every, job fair and are super nice friendly individuals who are a pleasure to be around. I think you'd be crazy to count on something like this happening (at least in the next few years) but it's certainly nice to hear more and more people getting hired from various backgrounds.

I want to clarify: just the big 3? DL/UA/AA

Now to be general: if you are limiting your applications to the big 3 you are shooting yourself in the foot.

I hit career gold at my non legacy. If you want to wear a hat or affix "heavy" to your call sign. Good luck waiting for that call.

I think he was saying he knows just 3 that went to the big three. Plenty of FOs have gone to the LLCs
