Regional Airline Academy(RAA)...looking for info on it.

Do a search in the forums there has been plenty of stuff written about RAA. With that said, I must say run away from this place as fast as you can and don't look back.

It's a huge gamble but it does seem to work for some people if your goal is to just be a airline pilot. They have been hiring guys at like 250TT. If you don't hit it just right though and the airlines aren't hiring lowtimers when you finish there you are SOL though and no way to stay current until they are hiring again.

I wouldn't risk it.

There's a couple RAA guys currently calling me names at another board. They are pissed cause I don't think 400 hour guys should get type ratings in an RJ. Otherwise, I have nothing against the school. The cost is about 80K, with the type rating. About half the guys don't get the type rating and have to instruct another 500 or so hours to meet hiring mins....what a bummer.

Basically, you could get to the same place and spend half the money at a place like Mazzei or some smaller FBO's.

Okay so now after i have cooled down I'll try to hash this out in the most reasonable way possible. Forget you ever heard about RdoubleA. I used to instruct there (and goodness no I did NOT go there) and I wouldnt reccomend it to anyone (but I did have a good time). I still have buds there instructing and everyone thinks the place is a joke. Basically Some good people working under some crappy people. I could put you in touch with some former students who got tricked into shelling out 80-100k for a rj job. Planes are junk, painted pretty with a g430 slapped into them. But the brochure im sure says that they are new :) Hopefully youve already listened to the wise people who have already spoken before me. Buy some gleim books and go part 61, good luck!

Man, those guys over at the other site are pretty personally offended that I don't think the place is the shiznit. Why do people hate me so much?

I actually made fun of one of them for saying leer instead of lear, as in learjet. What a goof...

Hey fellas, thanks for the info. With 6 warnings about RAA, inclucing the administrator's, I think I'll cross that place off my list.
Again, your info was much appreciated.

Have you looked into ATP? The prices are very reasonable, they have plenty of locations and the Seminoles are very well maintained. I don't work for ATP but I'm almost done there, in fact I'm in CFI school right now. I haven't heard any real complaints about ATP. You pay exactly what they quote you at when you start up and they stick to their word. The training has been very professional and you can't complain about doing all of your ratings (except PPL) in the multi.

i go to raa and i can tell you that it's going downhill. the only reason you should go to raa is becuase it takes va students and if i wasnt va i would go somewhere else. and in fact i am so fed up with them not having a multi up and running i am about to leave. good luck

Falcon, and Ari take VA students. . . and I think Skymates does as well. There were much better choices of training locations IF you looked at the other companies that are part 141 and are VA approved.

For all you nay-sayers who say people never listen to experienced advice around here, this is an excellent example of someone who listens.

Hi i was a former student there if you want more info on this school plz contact me. if not run and hide ur wallet

Hey, I saw this post and had to reply. From a friend who went to that school you all should steer very, very clear. They have recently been bought out by new owners, but don't be fooled!! They still have the policy of keeping all your money!! READ YOUR CONTRACTS BEFORE SIGNING! Always be wary of any school that keeps any of your money if you withdraw.

The Mesa, AZ campus has changed drastically, also. They were kicked out of Williams Gateway due to not paying their lease. ATP now occupies their old space. If you toured the Gateway campus, you need to know that their new campus is a far cry from the old one. They now have the entire school in three small rooms at Falcon Field. They are breaking multiple 141 regulations as they don't have secure briefing areas and don't have internet or phone access for students for starters. Trust me....if the VA found out about this they would pull their approval status. Think of that if you are trying to use VA benefits!!

Many managers and chief flight instructors have recently left for other schools due to the shaky new management/owners. Instructors are also fleeing to the first job they can get, e.g. Mesa. Their current instructor staff is very inexperienced and green. One instructor leaving is an owner of Diamond Twin Stars that RAA is claiming they have. Well, the owner quit RAA and took his planes with him!!

Moral of the story is....be careful where you put your money for flight training. With the current rate of airline hiring, a local FBO will get you an airline job just as well as a fancy academy....let alone one that is falling apart as we speak!

I just found out new students are still signing up for this school!!! Are you people STUPID!!!?? Good LORD!!

Please, tell everyone to steer clear of this place!! Don't you understand? It's a ripoff?!?!
