Refueling Over Iraq

Not to sound too obtuse here, but I had no idea the C-130 is used for refueling. Watch this video from Air and Space Magazine:

I am not sure the embedded script will work on this site so here is a link:

BTW, is this the correct section to post a non-YouTube video?

C130 is pressurized and I BELIEVE that both the flight compartment and cargo compartment are seperate pressure vessels, so the cargo can be unpressurized (like with the door open) while still the flight compartment maintains pressurization. Correct me if I am wrong.

Wow that's REALLY cool! Can't imagine being able to have the chance to just hang out the back of a 130 like that takin pictures. Thanks for posting that!

There's talk of replacing the Hercules with the Airbus still? I did some searching; I do not see where the U.S. is looking at the A400M, can they really replace with all of its versatility??? Not even sure the Airbus project will continue anyway:

Don't know for us, the Herks still have some good life in them. Plus, we can't even decide on an Airbus or Boeing high-speed tanker, much less figure out whether to get one to replace the Herk.

Cool indeed, but there isn't amount of money on this planet that can convince me to sit there at the edge of that ramp taking pictures. And yes, I know they are connected with a cable, but still :)

Yes, the C130 is pressurized. I have jumped out of many a C-130. The ramp is a nice launching platform.

You're wrong.

The can pressurize the whole thing or not at all.

I can't speak as to if their first and foremost mission is refueling but it coule be.
Here is some shots from OIF I took.

We even had the ability to refuel other aircraft from the ground in the v22, or vehicles if needed, though the aircraft had to be specially set up for it and it took up 80% of the cabin.

The tanker program is not intended to replace KC-130s. It's mainly to replace the KC-135s. The AF is currently looking at Boeing and Airbus products primarily, but won't rule any company out at the moment, especially in light of recent events.

Sure was. Went to AQ quite a few times though it seemed to have tailed off towards the end of our deployment.
Yeah the "Wal Mart" chow hall down on main side was pretty sweet. Hardly ever went though as it took too long to get there and back.
Except for the 10 days I camped out down there waiting to hitch a ride out of Iraq, I was fat and happy for that week and a half.
