I didn't take these, but thought they'd be a good share:

Alaska Airlines has suspended its remaining flights in and out of Anchorage for Saturday night after Mount Redoubt erupted again about 3:40 p.m. Alaska time and generated ash clouds that pose a significant risk to air travel. The airline expects to resume service in and out of Anchorage on Sunday, March 29, provided that conditions allow.

In all, 37 flights to and within the state of Alaska were canceled Saturday. Since the volcanic eruptions began Sunday, March 22, Alaska Airlines has canceled more than 185 flights affecting an estimated 10,000 passengers.

I got stuck in Fairbanks last night with no overnight bag (that'll teach me not to carry an extra pair or shorts on a day trip when a volcano is blowing). Just glad I'm home now with two days off!!

Awesome:nana2:

Did you see the picture on the ADN homepage with the lightning? There is ash on my window sill, and the snow is turning brown here right now.

Oh, I remember the first time I didn't bring a bag on a day trip! :) Learned that lesson pretty fast! Uniform pants, epauletless epaulet shirt and my overcoat sitting there drinking beer on a "surprise" 18 hour layover in GRR.

The bar thought the captain and I were federal agents.

Another update:

March 29, 2009

Anchorage International Airport remains closed and Alaska Airlines is unable to resume operations there until blowing ash settles and is cleared from runways, taxiways and ramp areas. Estimates are that the airport will not reopen until mid-Sunday afternoon at the earliest. Once authorities reopen the airport, the airline will evaluate whether it is safe to begin flying there again.

So far, 31 flights to Anchorage and within the state of Alaska have been canceled today. Since the volcanic eruptions began Sunday, March 22, Alaska Airlines has canceled more than 215 flights affecting at least 10,000 passengers.

Standby passengers traveling between Anchorage and Seattle are being advised not to go to the airport because it is unlikely they can be reaccommodated before April 1.

Could you call the governor, and if she can quit looking for Russia for a bit, see if they can turn off the volcano please? I've got some work to do.
