Redline Airshows fatal crash

One dead in plane crash near Culpeper airport

I had no idea there were nighttime flying acts at these air shows:
  • "During the night portion of the Culpeper Air Fest an aerobatic act experienced an accident. Emergency services that were onsite were dispatched immediately and are currently at work on the scene," the statement read. "It is too early to release any specific details at this time as there is an ongoing investigation. The educational portion of the Culpeper Air Fest for tomorrow morning will continue as planned, and as we get more details on the investigation we will make decisions on the remaining portions of the airshow. Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved and we will update you as soon as we have further information."

Night acts are common on some of the shows. Some are more twilight shows versus pitch black. Usually have pyro on the wings and lights that are directed into the smoke or some neat effects.

Night airshows are awesome, the performers fly a much less aggressive sequence. You won’t see Skip Stewart & Sean Tucker at night, but you will see performers like the Twin Beech, the Aeroshell Texans and Gene Soucy.

Just heard that one of the RV-8s that is part of the two plane Redline Airshows team crashed last night. Reports are the crash was fatal.

Accident Van's RV-8 N804RL, 12 Oct 2018

I took the family to the KCJR show the next day. It was a good show and there were still some warbirds flying in spite of the tragedy.

A large part of the sponsorship was from Girls In Aviation and they must have given out 2,000 pink t-shirts. Bummer about the accident, but if anyone is near there next year, it's a good show. (note the parking is free, but offsite and there are buses to bring you to the field)

I saw Tucker fly a night show back in the 90’s, when I saw it I wasn’t a pilot yet and didn’t really appreciate how awesome it was.
