Redirect offers for WSA En Route

Anybody else waiting on a WSA En Route facility get a redirect offer? So far people slotted for ZSE, ZAN and ZDV have received emails like this following:

This is a blanket email so please in your response - include your full
name -

At this time it is expected that your initial assigned facility will not
have a need to fill in fiscal year 2011 (Oct 1, 2010 thru Sept 30, 2011).
Therefore, i need to know if you would accept a redirect to either ZOA
(Oakland CA) or ZLA (Palmdale, CA).

Please reply to this email with your acceptance or declination of the
redirect. If you decline the redirect, you will remain in process for
your current facility, but it is uncertain at this time when a seat will
become available at your original facility (FY 12)?.

Once everyone has had the opportunity to reply then i can begin to assess
where and when you may receive a projected class seat. There are many
things still to be determined in the process and i will let you know as
much as i can along the way.

Thank you in advance for your reply and we appreciate your patience and
understanding as we work to assess our hiring needs at this time.

I went ahead and put in for ZOA. It's been two years waiting already; I'm not waiting two more. Anybody else making the change?

Really? Nobody else on here? I know the ATC forum's become a ghost town, but I figured there'd be at least one or two of y'all who got it.

I ended up going for ZLA, not ZOA. Wife and I decided we'd like living in Palmdale more than the east bay in terms of housing, weather, and a few other things. With three En Route classes lined up already for October, and more to come, the outlook isn't too bad. So long as they don't fill them all up with ZNY hires, that is.

Sorry for the delay yeah I actully got a phone call last Thursday about 4 hours before the email went out by EM. I sent it back saying ZOA or ZLA, but would prefer ZOA. I hear ya on the two years man, The first time I applied was pubnat 2 (Feb 08 I think). Have you heard anything back yet?

Ouch, PUBNAT2.

Yeah, I've been in touch with EM by email and we've spoken about it some -- she's got me down. If she hasn't already gotten back to you on it, you may want to try giving her a call. There was some inclement weather on Monday keeping people away from MMAC, but I figure she'd have gotten to it by now.

Interesting you got a call. RdRunnr got one as well, about five or six hours before the email went out. I had written her about another issue that day and she emailed me about it beforehand too. I wonder if they decided to stop contacting people individually and just went for it en masse. Anyway, nice to be presented with the opportunity -- with a couple of choices.

Yeah called EM today. She says she got my email and is getting all the new paperwork ready for everyone all at once. Hope this is the start of the end, again....haha.

No kidding. Let's hope this is the last one, eh.

Damn guys, godspeed. Get that foot in the door and get ready to work your ass off.

Thanks. We'll need to. I hear that some of these "openings" are due to recent washouts.

For a re-direct, do you have to give up your original TOL prior to getting the new TOL? Will you be able to keep the original TOL date, or do you have to get in line behind those currently holding a TOL to your new facility? Do you have any idea if they will be offering this option to other centers who won't get slots in FY 11? Any info appreciated.

I asked whether we'd be receiving a new TOL, but didn't get a direct answer back -- just that we'd definitely be getting a date in FY11. Others who've redirected haven't ended up with new TOLs, so I'm assuming that they're just going with the original date.

Someone slotted for ZID mentioned getting an email about a redirect as well, I think for ZNY. Out of the maybe ~12 people I've heard speak up about it, everyone's been from either ZSE, ZDV or ZID. Doesn't mean that there aren't others, those are just the ones I've heard about myeslf. It sounds to me like that they've just been identifying the Centers who are unlikely to be doing any new hiring (that is, moving people from the TOL list to training) in the next fiscal year.

thanks for the info...I guess I'll just wait it out.

I wouldn't wish ZLA, ZOA, or ZNY on my worst enemies. Getting a foot in the door is one thing..... being able to live is another..... Hope you take cost of living into consideration.

But if you have no bills and can afford $1,000/ mo for a studio apartment in crackville on 40k pay while waiting a year or more to get to the next pay step more power to ya.

ZNY is a great facility, and although it is kinda expensive here the starting pay is around 51k after everything. And people are getting d3 in around a year. Took me 10 months. Better to take ZNY than turn down the job.

Cost of living in Palmdale/Lancaster ain't bad, and ZLA's right there -- not in the actual city.

Bay Area, now that's a different story.

If you can afford it. This job is not everything in life. There are other out there. This is not a job you want to take on being miserable where you are at, training is miserable enough.

Don't get me wrong, I love the job, but have seen to many move for it and suffer worse in training because they are so miserable.
