Red Bull Air Races

Has anybody heard anything about the Red Bull Air Races that will be happening on the 8th in San Francisco? I guess it is a pretty big deal, and these planes do this all over the world. Usually the Blue Angels are the stars of fleet week, but it just seems like these air races are getting alot of publicity. There are posters for it and stuff all the way out here in North Dakota...not to mention I have seen several TV commercials. This is going to be the first time I have missed fleet week in a long time. Go figure...

Here is the link to their website:

Ya they are pretty exciting to watch. I saw them at the Reno Air Races last year. I am sure it will be more more exciting watch them fly over the bay and maybe around the bridge and Alcatraz. I will try to post some photos from they flight last year in Reno.

Here are some photos of one of their events: http://blastfilms.com/redbull/index.html

AWESOME pics. I guess that they are going to put the pylons out in the water on the bay. I really wish I were home to go see it. I could have gone out on our boat at sat right uner them. :D
I guess I will have to settle for the TV broadcast...

Can I borrow your boat to watch the races???? Joking...ya that would probably be the best viewing point, right at water level.

It will be interesting to see how they anchor or place the blow up pylons, especially with the onshore winds this time of the year.

If anyone knows the TV sched for the event. Please post. Thanks.

You should check out this site: http://www.redbullairrace.com/
If you go to the upper right hand corner there will be a link for Video/Images/Audio and it will have videos of the other races this year. Its pretty sweet, some of the palces they race in Europe is just CRAZY!

Video Clip

Hey guys I made a little video clip from yesterday's air show at in San Francisco.

Friday was the qualifying round for the Red Bull races. In one of the heats a plane ran into the pylon with what looked liked their propeller and popped the pylon. It took a little time, but they eventually replaced the pylon and had things up and running again. They have the pylons floating on barges in the bay.

The Blue Angels were pretty cool to see flying around the city's buildings. They managed to set off countless car alarms with their low flying.

Anyway, here is a quicktime video clip from yesterday's events: http://blastfilms.com/fleet/fleet.mov

heh heh heh, the live feed's got feedback from the mike. it's like i'm really there, holding my ears, waiting for the soundboard dude to figure it out. :P

And the series championship! Seriously, this was super cool to watch in person. We watched the first round from very near SierraPilot's first photo, then moved back by the jumbotrons to watch the second round. That way we could see the times and the airplane cams as well. Unbelievable! If I didn't have to catch BART to SFO, I would have stayed for the podium ceremony after the Blue Angels, but alas, non rev called.
