Recording ground instruction

I recently saw a student's logbook where the instructor had made an entry for ground instruction in the logbook amongst the flights recorded, and in the box for the tail # he had just written "Ground." Some logbooks have separate pages in the back for recording ground, but most of the time this gets filled up. I know the regulation says you must sign the logbook of every person you give ground to, so how do you normally do it? I've kept a separate ground log for the student and signed it (which has been ok with the DPE) but signing directly in the logbook along with the flights seems like a better idea. Does anyone else do that?

In my logbook when the blank pages with lines for ground filled up my instructors just started writing it in tiny print inside the back cover. Now that's what I do when I see a logbook without space for ground training.

In 141 school, you have to record all gnd time in the folder, so I do not put anything on student's logbook. However, when I teach 61 student or do flight review, I type what training I give and the time in 2 separate sheets (one for student; one for me). Remember we need to keep the record for 3 years. In case of they violate any regulation and FAA/NTSB come to see me, I can prove them I give the training to the student.

Remember you only need to keep records of endorsements. You don't have to record every ground or flight lesson you give, you only have to sign the student's logbook.

got ya. thevideographer, u r right. I just keep all records in my folder, so I do not need to memorize everything in my brain. My working environment is part 141 school. The chief CFI would like to see all paper work even the student is doing part 61.
