Recent Airplane Crashes

With the recent crashes in the news, I wondered has the frequency of accidents/crashes picked up or is it just the national media is picking up on them because of who has been involved. I did some checking on the NTSB database regarding crashes and fatalities and here are the figures that came up:
Jan 2004 - 39
Feb 2004 - 30
Mar 2004 - 41
Apr 2004 - 36
May 2004 - 48
Jun 2004 - 55
Jul 2004 - 57
Aug 2004 - 82
Sep 2004 - 62

Jan-Sep 2004 - 450

I'm sure exactly why I am posting this, but it just had me wondering with the recent activity, why are we hearing so much now? Food for thought.

Look in the monthly databases.....accidents happen all the time, and no one gives a rats ass, unless it's something high-profile....which we have now.

What's happening now, crash-number wise, isn't anything new or anything to be surprised or shocked about.
