Reality Show 'Airline' Spurs Flood of Job-Seekers

Re: Reality Show \'Airline\' Spurs Flood of Job-Seekers

Kell you work at SWA correct?

When I work Delta Express I loved the family that packed a weeks worth of clothes in one suitcase. The bag weights were way off for MCO. Nothing like a bag that is 4 foot tall and weight 100 lbs.

Ya know kidding. I WISH all the bags weighed FAA bag weights. When half of them have "heavy" tags on them, I just have to groan. When I have three CARTS of them, I have to cry.

At least yours have heavy tags. Most of our skycaps dont put them on there so you never know until you jerk the bag and it doesnt move.

Some of the worst I have seen in ATL is bags going to San Salvador. The come out of the plane wrapped in green cargo netting and have everything under the sun in them. Delta usually has to leave off bags because they are so big and can fit in the 737-800. I think they fly a 767 sometimes to accomadate them.

One of the funnies things I've seen while working at VS.

One night a guy going to Lagos, Nigera, walked up with a full size office coping machine on a cart. It wasn't in a box, it wasn't wrapped in plastic, just the copier on an airport cart, and wanted to check it to LOS.

We all stood there and laughed, did this guy really expect this thing to get there in one piece. Needless to say, it was not checked in.

I flew Salvadore a lot. I swear those people were breaking down small cars and checking them as baggage! Funny thing, almost none of those flights ever had the stab trim setting right. Hmmmm.

You definitely need to put the weight lifters on those flights. I've seen some of the gals really struggling to get bags on the belt.

I understood that we freighted the excess bags down. I've never seen a bigger aiplane on the route.

I've seen more folks kicked off airplanes, spit at gate agents and assault other passengers in my short eight years as an airline pilot and there's no way I'm going to volunteer to watch that jazz on TV!

Much rather watch Skinamax, but we don't get premium channels in the Taylor hogan anymore!

Jeez Doug, where do you fly? In 25 I can pretty much count on one hand those types of incidents (course my memory is going). That's why it cracks me up that they film the same SWA people having the same types of confrontations. Hmmmm. Maybe need some re-training?

Those folks put anything and everything in those bags...TV's and stereo's are seem to be the most popular things

Re: Reality Show \'Airline\' Spurs Flood of Job-Seekers

TVs, stereos, bicycles, surfboards, golf bags (EVIL!!!), free weights, grandma, you name it, they check it. At least we only fly domestic. I've heard horror stories from the Virgin Atlantic guys. However, I DID see them offloading a Ferrari the other day.

Re: Reality Show \'Airline\' Spurs Flood of Job-Seekers

Bags at an FBO don't sound like a problem, but dealing with the rich-private-jet having fortunates was a nightmare. People would have stuff in the little cargo area and in the cabin not packed at all. It was like moving someone out of there house minus the fridge, etc. and they couldn't get boxes. One family must have had the entire nursery for their baby on board, I wouldn't be surprised if I helped someone offload drugs LOL.
