re: ASA TA

My friend left my employer in April and is now 8 people from CA on the 340... it's going to be a 7 month upgrade. He certainly deserves the break!

I think they are going to have upgrades going for less than six months in the CRJ next year.

If I were applying I would be ALL over Mesaba.

Yeah I was thinking that about the upgrades when I noticed they were going to receive 36 CRJ900's by September 2008.

If you were working for a company that negotiates a new contract with a TA, and you quit that company to move on.... do you still get the retro pay that was owed?

I worked at 9e for 2 years after our contract expired, all of that time as a CA. If they negotiate a new contract that has retro pay, am I owed a check?

Retro pay is sort of like a signing bonus. I think you'd have to be on the seniority list when the CBA is signed.

The ASA TA doesn't contain any retro pay. It has a signing bonus instead. Managements have an extreme aversion to anything termed as retro pay, because they think it sets a precedent that they'll have to pay it on every new contract from then on. So, most MECs just appease them and call it a signing bonus instead, but try to get it as close as possible to what retro pay would have been for the pilots currently on the list. The only downside is that pilots that have left don't receive a check.

The PCL MEC is working on a signing bonus also. We decided not to push the retro pay terminology issue because it would have wasted too much negotiating capital that could have been better spent on something else. So, you and I won't receive a check once PCL finally does get a TA.
