Ram Air ??

Just got a job offer from Ram Air. They would like me to start on Jult 10th, but understand if my current employer wants 2 week notice. The next class on July 24th is filled. Is it stupid to wait for the next available class? I don't want to burn bridges at my current job as they have treated me well and I might want or need to come back someday! Second of all other than studying the material they send me how else can I best prepare for training? I have access to sims, but aircraft instrument flying would cost money. Is the arrow comparable to the lance. Last of all is the 6 month contract new? I thought they got rid of that.

My last employer had me for another 3 weeks or so, and if I left early in that time I would've owed $833 as a bond.

What I did was walk in and say "well, they gave me two class dates. one is in 5 days and the other is in a little over a month".

My boss replied "well, I really don't need you to stay another month, so I suppose you can leave early".

He let me go without paying a dime. I think what did it is I didn't just go in there and say "peace out", I put the ball in his court. Maybe talk to your boss and see what he/she says. They know exactly how much you want to move on with the next phase of your 'career' and if they are reasonable I'm sure you can work something out.

PS July 10th is like 13 days. It's not exactly "last minute"...

The best way to prepare for Ram is to have recently flown in a high preformance airplane (you'll be flying a Lance during training and the first few weeks regardless of your multi qualifications), and pay attention during ground school. The ground school is informative, but you have to pay attention in order to pass your checkride. I understand Ram has a contract now as well... good luck with that.

Flying the airplane isn't difficult provided you have time in high preformance aircraft. The training week=long days, little pay (pretty much like your whole career will be), drinking from a fire hose, and 2.0 hr training flights (three flights, and then checkride).

Upgrades to the twins right now are happening quick. Are you planning on staying in RDU or what? PM me with questions---Good Luck! We need some pilots bad. As for the class date thing....if you pay attention to the pilot jobs boards---Ram is hiring 365 days a year. People leave Ram after they get 200 multi (which happens quick---about 3 months) so don't feel pressured to take the very next class date. Its a miracle how if you say no to one, a spot opens up in the next one!

Beats instructing and gives you a chance to get multi time (I had about 15 hours of multi when I started 3 months ago---Now I'm approaching 220).

I got burnt with this one....

I was studying for an interview at my last job (135 vfr) and a buddy inquired. He ended up getting an interview also. I had mine first, excepted the first class date outside of two weeks(ended up being like 4 weeks out), he took the one that started in 4 days. He is now senior to me because of that. However, he burnt one bridge, and the chief pilot at our current gig was cool enough to understand what happened. He know's his personality type and is treated accordingly. Luckly, training captian and check airman spots aren't based on senoirity...so when it came down to it, I ended up with the promo and am doing just fine, the C.P. expects the other guy to quit with a day notice... nice. Moral, if you burn a brigde, remember it doesn't only effect your last employer, it might have an impact on your current job too. Just grit your teeth, bite the bullett, whatever... give 'em two weeks at least. If it doesn't pay off in the end, at least you know you did the right thing.
my 2 cents.

My personal feeling has been that I don't want to work for a company that won't allow me to give a proper notice to my current employer.

It all worked out great. I was able to get a class date for July 24th at Ram air Hence giving my employer more than 2 weeks notice. Jerome the chief pilot at Ram Air said he didn't want me burning any bridges. Plus this gives me some time to prepare for training. My current employer said I was welcome to come back any time. Thanks for all the advice. Looks like I will finaly get to be a Freight Dawg.

Hey Gang,
Just found this forum sounds like a lot of us are all in the same boat just about ready for that next step from instructing and just ovre 135 mins. I will be applying with ram my self in about 4 months due to other commitments. So one last summer of instructing at least I got a gig flying a 421b second seat for an owner here in SC. It is so nice to get to fly some better stuff I had a great job co-pilot in A Citation II but had to give it up because of family issues. Sucked but all will be well soon. Hope to see you all soon.

Been on line for about 4 weeks now. All in all a good company. Just raised their pay. They do put you in a hotel durring training and give you 1000$ bonus when you pass the check ride. Upgrade to multi is quick if you are willing to move. Pay is now $90 a day and there are ways to make extra. It is to complicated to discrbe here. Great place to get some 135 time for the experience and resume.
