You know you're on the right aviation forum when the guy posting radar techniques like he's Dave Gwinn, is actually Dave Gwinn.

Not to brown nose, but if anyone ever has a chance to listen to Dave speak, do it. When I was at school in North Dakota, he came and spoke to my aviation meteorology class. Very little of it was related to weather (because he was doing a presentation on radar that night), but he has some of the best stories and a great skill for telling them.

Just ordered Dave's book. A great teacher of both weather and wx radar knowledge. He even taught this dumb country boy how to use a radar like a pro and I don't scare myself near as much...like last night flying through the Midwest.:cwm27:

I took Dave's course around 20 years ago. It made a big difference in my radar skills and flying in thunderstorm areas a piece of cake.

One of the biggest myths out there is "weather radar is learned on the line."

Welcom Back, Captain Gwinn!

I always enjoy reading your column in Plane & Pilot. Your stories and insights would be a welcome addition to JetCareers. :nana2:

Thanks, Gator....but after 15 years, 182 columns and articles in Plane-&-Pilot, the new Editor within the first month decided that Capt. Kevin Garrison (the most clever writer I know...get his "Clear Left" at Amazon)..anyway, decided that Kevin and I were "retired" and had nothing to add to HIS magazine. I was immediately invited to write for ASF, Flt Tng magazine and IFR, so you might find me there in time. (I've advised Barry Schiff not to submit anything to P&P....'retired', ya know).
He wanted to replace Bill Cox on all the airplane eval's, but 37 yrs with the magazine was in Bill's favor.

Nice to 'be read'....I really get uplifted by a comment like that!

Hi Captain Dave - I love to laugh! Can a non-pilot read your book and understand the humor? I have read Kevin Garrison's columns and have enjoyed his writing. I think it's ridiculous that the magazine feels that you and Kevin have nothing to add.

Ding ding ding........we have a winner!

Welcome! Thanks for hanging out here at JC and sharing your countless hours of experience and insight for all members to absorb. Retired or not.....experience doesn't just vanish.

Man Dave 20 yrs ago I was still in high school......

Which actually suggests you're getting pretty old yourself.:)

I was just thinking the same thing. My 20-year reunion isn't THAT far off....
