I've had my share of passengers that drop by the cockpit and make stupid remarks.

Probably the worst was a few years ago when someone's child walked into the cockpit and started yammering about how suprised he was that black folks (well, actually the vernacular description) could fly airplanes. His guardians swiftly, but not very passionately apologized but I couldn't resist responding "Well, kids only repeat what they hear on a daily basis..."

The captain was a lot more pissed than I was, and was about to kick them off, but I convinced him that the best revenge was to leave them on let them stew for the 90 minute flight and then stand in the doorway proudly smiling as they deplaned.

Thats was and is the best way to handle situations like that. I wouldn't give someone the satisfaction by getting angry over some crap like that.

I agree. Even though I am just an instructor, I have heard all sorts of crazy talk. I've even had one person with the nerve to tell me that I am an uppity n***** trying to rise above my station in life. No sense in getting angry.

Like Chris Rock says, "whomever you hate will end up in your family." :D

shoulda hit'em upside the head with a shovel.

people are disgusting.

Chances are, the guy who made the 'bad word' list (me) did it based on previous flame attacks on the forum?

SA, bro! :)

I guess if you were a cracker, slanteye or a wet back - they would have made the list.. :)

They are all equally racist terms.. Buuutt.. it is your website.. So, I suppose it's cool with me.. :D

Do you really want me spending hours (days?) thinking up every iteration of racist slang just to qualify as a politically correct webmaster?

I'm largely a doofus when it comes to racism because I've had the luxury of not being exposed to much of it during my formative years or oblivious enough to not see it when it's staring me in the face.

But if you'd like to volunteer to make me a comprehensive, politically correct list of words that are deemed as racial epitaths, expletives or "ooh, I wouldn't say that to TonyW's face"-type terms, email them to me at doug@jetcareers.com and I'll load them onto the server...

Screw political correctness. I'm a lazy webmaster and people on my forum can say whatever they want :nana2:

Absolutly he posts a major threat on the aircraft.....what if other passengers decide they want to fight him because of what hes saying.....i mean not to overlook this too much, but a serious fight may occur, and at FL370, you dont want that......turn the damn plane around, if theres something wrong you dont go, its flying not driving......and if you wanna fly u gotta realize that its gonna be a pain in the a**

I'm saying the guy saying racist things on the aircraft is a threat. Other pax may hear him and possibly want to fight him....basically, for some reason you didnt get what im saying......LAND THE PLANE IS WHAT SHOULD BE DONE

I posted a response on this thread shortly before the Forums were migrated to a new server.

Was my post deleted, or did it not survive the transition?

(When looking at the Forum Index, my name appeared in the "Last post" position, but my post is absent - - looks to me like it was deleted.)

.

Did you post it on the 3rd? after 3AM? if so, I think we did lose some posts in the migration... we might be able to get them back tomorrow, just not sure yet!!

I lost at least a days worth on PilotFamilies.com... I'm hoping we didn't lose as much here, that would stink!!

It was the 3rd, and it was in the neighborhood of 2:45AM CST. (I looked at the post I made just prior to that, and I'm estimating.) It's curious that the Index listed my post, but it didn't appear on the thread.

Anyway, if that's the reason it's gone, I guess it will be safe to repeat my comment.

It went something like this:

I'm amazed that this thread took so many posts (the 48th response, I believe) for somebody to come up with an idea other than throw him out of the airplane at FL370 or deliver him to France.

Why the preoccupation with racism? Would the response be different if the guy just threatened to kill the FA?

A passenger threatened the FA, right? We're done - - airplane goes to the most convenient loacation where the passenger can be delivered to U.S. law enforcement authorities, the airplane can be refueled, and the airplane can depart and continue the scheduled flight to France. That location is probably NOT the departure airport, and it is probably in front of me. Boston? Newark? JFK? If I have to burn fuel to get to landing weight, it might be farther north, but I'm not leaving the continental US with a passenger who has threatened a crewmember. All I need is a cop, a fuel truck, and a runway long enough to get me over the pond.

The threat is not dismissed simply because it was racially charged.

Lots of strange server stuff.

Two servers, two MySQL databases, five or six confused non-communicative technicians and two very pissed an anxious webmasters! hopefully, the problems are resolved now.

But your post was not deleted as it'd be in the Mod/Admin section for consideration, which it isn't.

Thanks for the answer, and thanks for the hard work on the forums.

I'd just hate to see a fist fight break out on a plane at 37,000 feet from angry passengers that may want to lash out at the vulgar passenger.

WOW that's going to be a long long flight!

Let the flight attendants handle it. If there is more than one f/a on board they can switch positions. If she is a black woman hearing racist comments is not something new to her it's how she handles it that makes the difference. Trust me I speak from experience as a f/a and a black woman. Turning an aircraft around under those circumstances is not worth the hassle. If I were the pilot I would find out if she is ok, ya know make sure that she doesn't totally dislocate his knee when she rams him with the galley cart

that is wisdom.:yeahthat:

my .02 cents: i have lived all over the world, and for one thing racism and bigotry are not necessarily the same thing. i grew up in the country in texas and virginia, (live in rural north texas now) and i can tell you firsthand that it works both ways and is not gonna stop any time soon. black people should know through experience that a huge number of white people were raised as racist bigots and are currently teaching their children to be, too. i still have scars from the honolulu police throwing me in a cell w/ a bunch of samoans-after having lived in upolu, western samoa i could speak samoan pretty well, and am not racist at all, or loudmouthed, but they jumped at the chance to beat the sh*t out of a howlie. i personally broke up a lynching in progress in downtown dallas(crackheads having a dispute over who stole the rock) in 2001. i have seen racism/reverse racism many times, and it bothers me, but it bothers me almost as much to see educated people willing to write off the life of another human because that individual is ignorant of reality. the notion that it would be fun to see a racist, or even a murderer, for that matter, punished is disturbing, and is the same mentality that would justify racism in the first place. it's like kicking a dog, and people that consider themselves better than anyone else for any reason should consider that your perceptions of right and wrong are almost exclusively limited to what you personally know, and where you were raised/taught the most basic of life's principles. if you're of european ancestry, it is a good bet that your ancestors had blood on their hands. don't forget that if you grow up in palestine you think israelis are evil, and if you grow up in israel you think palestinians are evil, and if you grow up aboriginy you think they are both crazy for trying to own something that was there before you were born and will be there long after your'e dead.

That is the best thing you could have done. They probably could not stand to see a successful black man, especially a pilot. I was flying a couple of months ago, and a black FO got off a Pinnacle CRJ in Memphis. I was waiting at the gate, and noticed some of the passengers stare him down, as he walked off with the captain. They seemed so surprised to see a 'black' pilot.

Best thing to do, is act like it doesn't bother you, and stand there, after the flight with a big smile, and tell them to have a nice day. It will probably eat them up inside.
