R2F's Seven (not so) Deadly Spins

Re: R2F\'s Seven (not so) Deadly Spins

If you wanna have some real fun, maybe consider going to a place like this:

The aerial rides page may point you in the right direction.

Have a variety of stuff there to go through, so whatever you wish. And you get to do it in a Pitts, so it'll happen a bit faster than in a 150

One day, I'd like to do that "upset" training - or whatever it is called. Very extensive.... and expensive, but worth it for safety reasons.

Anyone know where I can take a fun spin ride like you guys?? My 35th birthday is coming up (too dang quickly) and it'd be fun to do something a bit more "thrilling" than a roller coaster at Koaster Kingdom.

[/ QUOTE ]The best place in Phoenix (other than Fighter Combat International) would be at Chandler Air Service. They have a large fleet of absolutely beautiful Pitts S-2's. You and doug should both go up (in two different planes with two different instructors) and do some formation flying!

Upset training? Is that where I walk up to you and say "Hi there, Stan!", and you proceed to punch me in the face? Then the training comes afterward one way or another?

Kidding! LOL.

Re: R2F\'s Seven (not so) Deadly Spins

I've been kicking around the idea of getting some spin training while time building for my commercial. The DA-20 is approved for spins, but the school also has a Citabria. The DA-20 is cheaper, but the Citabria is aerobatic.

Re: R2F\'s Seven (not so) Deadly Spins

Those of you in the northeast should go to Van Sant airport. They rent out 2 Stearmans, a Great Lakes, a Tiger Moth, a Super Decathalon, and various other tail draggers. (Also a Cessna 150, but who wants to fly that with so many other fun things around!)

Their site:

I am in Florida now, just in time to miss the cool flying in PA, but I did fly there about every weekend until 2 weeks ago. (Wx permitting.) For a while they had a cub on skiis, but I didn't get to try it.

Enjoy!

Go for the Citabria. It will at least stay in a spin if you want it to. The DA20 seems to want to go into a steep spiral on its own, a bit too easy, so it is hard to get some turns in on the spin. If it is all you have, it would be ok, but with a Citabria around, you may as well use it.
