Quiet Technologies "Halo" vs. Clarity Aloft

Interesting, but I don't like that there is no "microphone" but rather it uses cranial vibrations. There's a warning on the page for users who are flying RJs and/or turboprops. I would venture a guess that light or midsize bizjets would have the same issues.

Anybody tried these? http://www.tboneaviation.com/headsets/

Well after 3 days, 8 legs with the Quiet Technologies Halo I think I can say i'm sold on the in-ear concept. It's significantly quieter. Only question now... Halo or Clarity Aloft?

How many flights/flight hours the foam tips last?

From what I found on-line peoples that have tried both (QT and CA) like the QT better, and seems they do a great job in pistons planes too....

I had emailed Phil at QT to ask if the Comply tips could be used with his headset. I find Comply tips to be a bit more comfortable than standard foam plugs. The email I got back was quite defensive of his product.

"You must have not had the Halo placed on properly. It is FAR more comfortable than the Clarity. Note... ours is infinately more adjustable than theirs: ours uses a soft stainless headband that can be bent and shaped to fit ANY head by simply bending it into position. Theirs is made out of a stiff spring metal that cannot be reshaped without a pair of pliers or a very stiff bend. Also, our headset has a steel band (wire) that can extend in and out of the band to accomodate any size head.

Our eartips are harder and thus less comfortable when cold, but at body temperature, there aint much difference at all. If you think ours is still less comfy, simply take a pair of cuticle clippers out and trim a radius from the square edge to fit better.

The answer to your question is NO! the comply tips will NOT fit our system as theirs has a threaded portion and therefore will leak.

Theirs is MUCH more expensive, the tips cost well over twice what ours do and while they do have an audio input for music, ours is by far the better deal. Try it for 30 days and see if you don't agree."

Any rebuttle from Clarity Aloft users?

Another thought: How many uses can you get from one pair of earplugs before you start to be embarrassed to have them hanging in the cockpit when you get out.

There are many different styles of the comply tips, both threaded and not. I like them, but they get too soft when hot and I find lose seal sometimes. Ymmv.

I use them with my earbuds for music etc, they are very comfortable.

They are washable, and should last a while, depending on your taste, maybe a few months?

If you use ear plugs routinely, then you ears don't get very gross. Just wipe it off with a tissue every time you put it away.

We got the OK to purchase personal headsets. We went with the Clarity Aloft (non-TSO). I love 'em. The Lear is EXTREMELY loud, especially with the hair dryer aux defog. Now I can hardly tell that the engines are running. In a sense, I think it's a good thing because I find myself paying closer attention to the engine gauges. The only complaint is that evidently the altitude alerter is not piped into the audio system, and it can be difficult to hear on occasion. We just have to stay super alert during climb and descent.

I also did a 2 hour leg in the Cirrus last week. They were very comfortable and did a great job with knocking down the wind noise. We have an occasional whistle from the top of the door, but I hardly noticed it during the flight.

Received my QT Halo today. Can't wait to get a trip to go try them out. Wondering if I can shorten those sound-tubes a bit... otherwise, i'm pleased with my purchase.

Now to get that Bose onto Ebay for someone else to enjoy.

Just flew 3 days with the Halo. I did end up shortening the sound-tubes. No appreciable difference in sound quality. The headset is extraordinarily light and comfortable. I do notice that the eartips do not provide as much noise reduction after the first leg. It's like they never really go back to being as large as they were when they are new.

Still, much much quieter than my Bose X (which will be sold and gone via Ebay in 24 hours! Yay!)

By the end of the third day there was a little more noise leakage. No problem, i'll change the tips. They're not exactly "cheap" though. $1.50 for a pair of tips. I'll have to find a place to get them cheaper. Thinking of checking with a local audiologist.

In any event, I like the halo a lot.

I just got my Clarity Aloft head set in the mail today. It is going to be a few weeks before I fly a real plane again but when I do I will do a write up vs the Bose X.
