Quiet Supersonic Transport

The QSST looks pretty cool. Not sure if we'll ever see it or not, but about as remarkable as the Starship was back in the day...

SAI has gotten some input from Lockheed on the design but the big thing is finding the OEM to build it. SAI and Aerion are working on the designs with Aerion using a lot of off-the-shelf stuff like the JT8D-217 engine which everyone gasps at.. an old engine true but right for the thrust required and altitude it will operate at.

No doubt you have also see the research NASA is doing on the shaped probe that extends and retracts to 'shape' the sonic boom? NASA and Gulfstream were working on that although Gulfstream has publicly said it has no plans for a SSBJ.

Of the manufacturers out there, THE one with the most experience in supersonics and businessjets is Dassault. A few years ago even they floated the idea.

No doubt the first question is how much will they cost and who can afford them. The second question answers the first.. governments will buy them for VIP transporation and for special missions and that means the first question is somewhat irrelevant. Still, large multi-national corps will be in line also basing them where tax policy is most favorable.
