Do airlines care how long it takes you to earn a degree? For example, you get a bachelor's in 6 yrs instead of 4...any input greatly appreciated

My guess would be No. Because you will more then likely start your career at a Regional, where a degree is not required. However, If i was you I would have a good explination as to why it took so long. Just in case the question popped up in an interview.

well

I might take 5 years to get a bachelors considering the money that I will end up borrowing for training. The answer for your question is definitely not. But if you can do it in 4 years while working on your ratings, it's a huge accomplishment. But if there are certain barriers such as money or time and you think it will take say 5 or even 6 years that's fine.

In my job hunting experience, the only thing that I've ever seen pop up on an application or interview is when you graduated, and what your degree is. They want to see that you a) meet the degree requirement if there is one, and b) the recency of your education if that is a factor (probably not for a flying job).

So relax about the 6 year plan and enjoy your college experience!

A little pointer from the sidelines: Most questions are "quick" questions, but please make your thread titles just a wee bit more description.

I wonder how many people actually get a Bachelor degree in 4 years anymore? Isn't 5 the average now?

I did mine in five. Not that the program was difficult, I was just uninspired and liked partying too much in college.

Doug, I know exactly what you mean...that and I want to get my MEI, and the drive to the airport where I can do some Multi work is an over hour away...when its sunny. You usually get a lot of students there too. I took my CPME ride with the guy that runs the school, and he said come back for my CFII and MEI and he'd be happy to hire me. A drive that long during a Buffalo winter, and working most of the day with a full load of classes would really suck. Thanks for the insight guys, now im leaning even more towards having this upcoming semester be my final as a full time student...Sacrificing some schoolwork for some potential paid multi time is the way I look at it!!

How would they even know how long you were in college? on my resume it just says B.S. in XXXmajor recieved in 200X. You dont put your date of birth or HS grad date anywhere so how woudl they know?

Took me 6 years total. I lost credits when I transfered from North Carolina to Colorado. Did two years at UNC, a year at CU, then took a year off to go snowboarding/get in-state tuition and then did 2 more years before throwing the cap into the air.

Proud of it, and wouldn't trade a minute of it!
