lets say you work in ramp, flight attendant, or customer service etc.. and have company I.D. and a dispatch license. Can you jump seat if you don't work as a dispatcher in a regional/major airline?

I think the company's Director of Operations is responsible for maintaining the company's database and ensuring that only current dispatchers are in the system .... but I'm not entirely sure. I'd be interested in an accurate answer as well!

Only pilots/dispatchers are allowed to be in CASS for unlimted cockpit jumpseats.

Flight attendants have their own agreements to utilize the cabin jumpseats for travel, but not flight deck.

All other employees may be authorized to ride in the jumpseat on a one off basis only if authorized by the Director of Operations. This would be an extenuating circumstance and would not be done for personal travel or often. I know someone who was able to have a jumpseat approved once for educational purposes.

Most cases you would need to be in CASS. So the short answer is no you won't be able too.

Due to CASS...no. You might try it and get away with it on your own airline but if you do - the FAA won't like it a bit and it's not worth risking your dispatch license for.

You're hearing two different things because it depends. It is possible your employer MAY allow you to jumpseat on company aircraft. However, you must be a qualified and current dispatcher employed by a carrier in the CASS system, and you yourself must be in the CASS system, and your carrier must have a reciprocal agreement with the other carrier you are trying to jumpseat on.

Access to the flight deck jumpseat is regulated by FARs (121.547/548). Only certain persons authorized by the FAA and the certificate holder can occupy the jumpseat. You might be able to arrange a one-off observation ride with your employer.

By the way, why do they call it a jumpseat?

MSP-LAX was surprisingly comfy in the 767, it had cup holders! :) I can only imagine how roomy the 777 or MD-11 is

I've jumped in the A330 and MD-11, and they are very roomy and comfy. Both trips I was in the cushy center seat tho - yep, it reclines :-) I don't imagine the side seats are quite as comfy.

727,737,757,767,777,A320,DC9,DC10,DHC8,SF340,ATR42,E120,F100...Best ride was the DC-10 with it's HUGE windows!

Ooops, forgot the CRJ, D328, and BAe146

Worst seat ever; 75s bend over and look outside, cut circulation to your legs, sure slide your seat back and blowout my knees, high chair with the straps Jumpseat lol.

737 seat is pretty brutal, especially the one behind the captains seat if installed. The 767 was fantastic, CRJ2 is a hilarious afterthought, and the 146 was remarkably comfortable, which is good cuz at how fast that thing flew you are going to spend some time in it!
