Question

Yea I just had a buddy who got his car broken into last night. Another friend had his car stolen from our fraternity parking lot last year. I would say it's a pretty big problem here.

Not a problem when compared to others. And the only reason cars are broken into on a regular basis, our police are inept and people don't think it can happen to them.

I'd alot rather have grannies driving too slow over getting your ass mowed down by souped up civic (no offense Jace)...

My civic is one of those with the stickers all over (each sticker adds 5 Horsepower, even though I don't have those products in my car), big fart can muffler (because the louder it is the more HP is added), lowered (by cutting the stock springs), has neon lights all over, blue tinted lights which simulate real Xenon lights, Altezza lights, and a euro-style single windshield wiper (I just ripped off the right wiper). Oh, but did I do anything to the engine to add horsepower/torque? Um, no because the stickers should make it fast enough.

No, seriously, my Civic is all stock...nothing more than a little 1.6 liter 4-banger.

Thank god. As I was reading that I was like "oh my god thats one of those turds I hear driving around all the time." Im not a big fan of the import racing stuff unless they are actually fast. I absolutely hate ricers (kids that do cosmetic stuff but dont do anything mechanical to make their car faster or better). What ever, rant over.

LOL, I know. Unless it's a Toyota Supra or 300ZX...or other high performance import... A couple of coworkers in San Diego asked me why I don't put a body kit on it along with other cosmetic crap. I don't see any reason to add 200 lbs of a body kit that was not even designed with aerodynamics in mind. It's a civic, not a Porsche GT2!
grin.gif

there's some real butts in town. body kit on an otherwise-stock pontiac with stocker hubcaps and stock suspension. kit is primer, car is painted. yeah, that looks great. there's so much rice in this town it's not even funny. back in the day i wanted to race all those losers just to humiliate them, which is funny because the car that i have now is faster but i find myself just not caring....people blow (not just in GF).

image is everything. there's this girl i know who was in love with this local guy who has a 1g base eclipse slightly lowered with a kit and a farter. she tried to convince me and 'cow that it was fast and it would smoke both of us. low 18s in that piece. i've seen some of the lamest cars ever here in town. for instance:

aforementioned pontiac
toyota echo with farter
buick with a neon taped to the dash and a twin-outlet farter
civic with turbo-sound exhaust tip
taylor's zx2 with suspension so slammed his muffler falls off when he bottoms out
civic with fake intercooler
purple civic DX slammed at checker pouring in 3qts of oil
green pontiac with farter
mid 16s CRX (on N2O)
countless others. it seems like there's new lamers in town every time i go driving, which keeps me entertained as i'm trapped behind a chevy truck and a tractor going 20 in a 35 (on the biggest street in town!).

Yeah right now Im driving a friggen 93 olds cutlass ciara since my blazer is all ripped apart. Ya cant get anymore grandma than that. Unless of course you're drifting in it.
smile.gif

This summer Im putting a chevy 355 into my blazer. Yeah I'm probly going to lower it about an inch or to and put 18s on it. But Im not putting belt thin low pro tires on it. 265/50/18 all around. It'll look and be mean when its done, and will also get mid to low 13s. What will be awsome is if I can put a four link, ladder bar, or good slapper bars on there, then I could adjust it and do wheelies. (evil face)

The thing thats funny is no one expects a souped up s10 to be fast. Believe it or not, they weigh 3600 pounds stock. And it doesnt take much to get them down to 3200 pounds. I think cameros weigh in around 38-4000 pounds. With small cars like caveliers and four door civics weighing around 3000 I think. But then theres the whole aerodynamic thing.

Sorry, you guys got me going.

roundout...very funny. Yeah, I've seen quite a few riced out cars here and wonder "WHY?!?!"

I'm thinking of putting these on my Civic? LOL...just kidding:

Or... Since I need wheel covers for my winter tire set-up:

These clever wheel covers will continue spinning once your vehicle has come to a stop. The unique ball bearing system keeps the outer hubcap in motion while the inner hubcap remains stationary. This is a very unique wheel cover design that will result in many people taking note of your vehicle. Not only do these spinner wheel covers look terrific but they are road tested to be quiet and durable.

These spinner style wheel covers / hubcaps are triple chrome plated, making your wheels look like very expensive, chrome alloy wheels. However, the spinner wheel covers shown on this page have been sprayed with a dulling finish to remove reflection for web viewing. In reality, these styles have a mirror finish, exactly like a chromed reflective bumper. They'll make your ride look Fabulous and stand out among the crowd.! Available for 14" and 15" steel wheels. Click here for a Quick Time movie of the Spinners in action.

[/ QUOTE ]

Umm... I'm gonna go with no.

Spinners are cool on some cars. Like old cadalacs and caprices. Otherwise they are extremely dumb. And spinner hubcaps, good god, thats just plain wrong.

Tom

Actually the thing I like about spinners is when you do a burnout with them. Something about the tire spinning and the wheel sitting still is cool to me.

Oh yeah, one nice thing about this place is you don't have to worry about your car getting broken into. In addition to my car alarm, I used to put my Club on (for those who don't know, it's a steering wheel lock to prevent your car from getting stolen) - I did that for like a week until people started telling me that no one steals cars here.

In the 4 years lifetime of my car, it's gotten broken into FIVE (5) times in San Diego...just because it's a El Cheapo Civic.

[/ QUOTE ]

Im positive that you wouldnt say that if you had the misfortune of living on campus. At one point, in the big fritz lot, there were as many as 7 cars per night getting roasted. Same lot, every single night for about 2 weeks.

My friend that doesnt live on campus recently was robbed (again). they also broke into his garage and our bikes (I thought a locked garage would be a safe place).

I just hate when people say there is no crime. Yeah there are no gangs, mob, or murder but there is crime. I deliver pizza and Ive come back a few times when people try and rip something off out of my car or my sign. One of my friends had his truck broken into 4 times (in innocent Crooksten). His brothers truck got it a few times too.

Were any of those outside Bek? There was one kid in our dorm my first year here that every time somebody would buy pizza he'd run out and take the sign off the car. He had quite the collection.

Wow, I guess I will have to be more careful in locking the trunk opener from the inside of the car. I usually keep my CD's in the trunk out of view.
