Question on becoming an En Route controller

i spent 20 years in enroute, my advice is buy plenty of lube.

Where the hell have you been Queeno! I hate you, but I miss you!!!
Love it or hate it, Queeno speaks for all controllers +/-1%(gotta account for the future supervisor, popsicle suckin type) at Level 10-12 facilities.
Don't expect to work a load of difficult traffic and expect to be appreciated for it by managelessment. There only words will be, "take a break and be back on time".

so have you met "the pig" yet?

This is/was a thread for questions about en route, kindly stay on subject and keep it clean. If you want to talk about that kind of other stuff take it to another thread, phone, or in person.

So my question is, is there anything in particular that I should be studying or researching in order to better prepare myself for an en route position? Or any other advice someone might have?

Try not to let minor things bother you... otherwise enroute ATC will drive you nuts.

have you slept with him yet?????????????????????????????????????
Why you gotta barge in on my personal life like that Quenno!

-If you can work traffic and you don't bash management, he likes you.(1%; non-union).
-If you can work traffic and you happen to rag on management, he lets you know what great piece of crap you are(74%; all-union).
-If you are a trainee, he don't like you(25%; half union & half non-union also known as great piece's of crap that will wash out when they hit the floor).

Just a little background on myself in case it's relevant.

I'm currently a student at the Green River Community College in WA enrolled in the ATC program. I've finished the private pilot/weather/instrument/other classes and will be taking the first of the ATC and Airline Dispatch classes this fall quarter. I've also applied to the PUBNAT7 and taken the AT-SAT with a score of 97.3. Woohoo!

I've read on the differences between En Route, TRACON, and Tower positions and unless something in my upcoming classes changes my mind, I would like to aim for an En Route position. However all I know is that the En Route positions are offered to the top 10% of the people who make it out of the Oklahoma Academy. In particular I would like to get into the En Route center in Auburn, WA if I could. Although don't get me wrong, I'm not hanging all my hopes on getting into there and I'll gladly go wherever the jobs are, I'm just saying that currently, getting into the Auburn center would be ideal.

So my question is, is there anything in particular that I should be studying or researching in order to better prepare myself for an en route position? Or any other advice someone might have?

back in the old days, on the ATC civil service test, you had to score high to get offered a job at a center, and different regions had different cut off points.
