Question for those with their ATP?

Do y'all still log cross-country flights over 50nm as XC or does it matter? I've found myself not really caring since I earned mine.

I don't think anyone cares anymore, most likely because EVERY flight is generally longer anyway. (except checkrides!)

I don't have an ATP, but I wanted to vote for the zombies.

I log anything point to point as XC now that I have my ATP. No need to differentiate at this point.

Someone told me (Patrick) to log point-to-point and >50nm in separate columns. I think thats a good idea. I have my ATP and still log only >50nm. Why? Cause on the 8710s that come up in the future (ATP single, CFI renewals, misc. addons,) >50nm is all that counts on the form. So if you ever lose your logbooks (God forbid,) you'll be able to call the FAA and ask for copy and go from there.

IMHO.

I log everything that's XC by the definition, not by the 50NM rule. If someone asks if I have the minimum for ATP I can go back and show them in the first 4-5 pages of the logbook where I have the cross country time.

To add to the mix, how often do/should update the log book? I mean daily, weekly, monthly. I do tours so 7 days add it all up and put it in.

When I think my phone is about to crash. :) Honestly, when I was an instructor, I'd do it daily when I got home since I'd normally have 4-6 flights to get in there. That, and I was gunning to get out. When I was an FO, I'd update it fairly often as a motivator once I got close to upgrade mins for the company. As a CA, I barely touched it for the first year or so. Now, I update about every 2 weeks. Or, I DID. That'll probably go back to "hardly update unless I'm about to update a resume or fill out a new application" since I cracked the 1000 TPIC mark. Motivation factor is gone, and I don't really have any other "magic" numbers except the 4000 total time to apply at Emirates.

I log it. Autofill in logbook pro will do it automatically.

The only leg under 50nm that I do (did) is DTW-TOL, I just log it as XC. In the grand scheme of my logbook, those legs are a very small percentage. If I had to, I could go back and figure how much time it adds to and subtract it from my XC total... but I doubt I'll have to.
