Question for "JEP" and any other "NET JETS" pilots

Morning JEP, hey I was browsing the threads this morning and I saw reply you sent someone concerning a question about Net Jets that led me to believe you may fly for them. If thats true, I'm hoping you might be able to share some advice/personal experience as one who's been down the road I'm considering taking.

My wife and I are a little over a week away from literally driving away from our lives (Career/Home) in OKC to start a new one beginning in Florida where I will cash out my equity and GI Bill money to start a new career as Commercial Pilot. I'm 42, and a retired USAF AWACS Flightcrew member (Not that it counts, just a little background note)

I'm trying to come up with a do-able plan of where I would like to see my career as a pilot to go. I know my age may have a negative impact in the sense that by the time I reach the "competitive" hiring minimums for FRAKS like "Net Jet" I could be facing 50. So thats my first concern with this particular "career plan." Would love to hear your thoughts and experience in this area.

Right now my plan is (like most time building pilots) is to CFI at the school I plan to go to, then fly for a regional to get the 2500+ hours I need; Having the time of my life doing what I truely love of course!!! Then hopefully get hired by Net Jet to have the time of my life doing what I truely love!!! Not that I'm a flake or anything, I've just been saying that to myself alot lately to convince myself that I really am doing the right thing with this whole "career change." LOL!!!

Anyway, I really think corprate aviation is where I want to end up. Is this a typical career path that you see with the folks you fly with? I'm sure there are many other backgrounds/paths to get to this type of flying and I may be over simplifying. I know I'll learn more as I get into my new career further.

Any words of wisdom/advice as I step into uncharted waters would be much appreciated. Take care and best of luck to all who are taking the leap!

Beechlover,

I am not sure if you are aware of this, but the fractionals such as Netjets do not have a mandatory age 60 retirement rule. If you were to get on with Netjets at age 50, you could still potentially fly for another 15-20 years if you so desired. I am not sure if that is what you want to do, but I do know that we have one pilot at Netjets that is around 72 and still flying. Best of luck to you and let me know if I can answer any other NJA questions for you.

JEP doesn't work for NetJets (but he may have stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night). We do, however, have a couple of NetJets folks on here who are friendly and helpful.

Hi Rudy,
Your plan sounds perfect to me. I wouldn't worry about age at all. Currently the only requirement is to maintain an 1st class medical. There is no age 60 requirement yet (there are rumblings of going 121 ...again). Good luck with your plan! Keep us posted along the way and send all the questions you like.

Hey Thanks a Bunch Guys! Looks like plan "A" is set.., in mud but set none the less. I'm sure there are questions I'm not even aware of yet that I'll be asking as I learn more and It feels good knowing there are folks here willing help! "eglplt" glad to hear that I won't be put out to pasture at 60 LOL!!! Unless what "NJA_CAPT" says may happen, happens.., you guys go part 121. There must be some advantage I'm not aware of for the company to do that other than get rid of us old guys! Thanks again, I'll keep ya posted, take care.

Nope, sorry to mislead you in anyway. I probably posted some salary info or hiring mins. That is all readily available via the web. There are others here that do fly for them and they have responded.
