Question about this ATC job!?

I don't know much about ATC, so I'm calling on all you ATC experts. I just saw this job posted in my local area. I was always thought ATC jobs were under FAA? The company posting this job is a global management service company. Can anyone apply to this job? What is a CTO certificate?

Job Description

Tower Air Traffic Control Specialists direct the movement of aircraft within the Delta Airspace surrounding the airport and control aircraft, personnel and equipment within designated movement areas on the airport. They act as Limited Aviation Weather Observers (LAWRS). They utilize various automated air traffic control systems and radar in the course of their work. They utilize radios and landlines to communicate with pilots, ground personnel and other air traffic controllers. They monitor and train developmental air traffic control specialists.

* Direct aircraft, personnel and equipment movements through the use of control instructions.
* Observe and report weather information in real time.
* Receive, analyze and act on detailed information quickly.
* Inspect various communications and information equipment for proper operation and report outages as required.
* Report aircraft incidents and accidents and complete associated paperwork.
* Maintain operational logs and reports.
* Train developmental air traffic controllers

Required Skills
Air Traffic Controllers must be calm, alert, and able to think on their feet. They must be able to multi-task and handle pressure, especially in times of emergency. They must be organized and have basic computer skills. They must have a strong sense of responsibility, be meticulous and have good teamwork skills. They must be able to communicate clearly and concisely in both written and spoken English. Air Traffic Controllers must be able to pass an FAA Class II Medical Exam. Applicants must pass Pre-employment drug screening and government background investigation. Required Licenses / Certificates: CTO, Class II Medical Certificate

Some smaller airports are contracted out to private companies like Robison Aviation and others. A CTO cert. is a Control Tower Operator's license. You have to go through the proper training before applying for these jobs.
 
you have to have your CTO and the only way to get it is by getting checked out at a facility....meaning, youve either been rated at a military or faa facility. i think some of the CTI schools offer a cti, but i could be wrong. either way, if they do the contract towers usually state that you have to have a minimum of 1 year experience at a facility...so the cto at a cti school wouldnt really get you a contract tower job

Not necessarily, but not likely either. I do know one FCT controller who went through CTI and stayed on in the school's tower as an instructor, gained their year of experience and applied with Midwest ATC.

well we all know there are exceptions to every rule....either way, you need a year at an facility....99% of people get their 1 year via working an FAA or military tower.
