Question about PDCs and IFR Clearance time frame

Yeah that's something that's always driven me crazy. I'm of the opinion that if the 2 hour mark has passed its in everyone's best interest to create a new release. I've had disagreements in the past over whether or not a write in amendment will suffice.
I seem to remember we changed the "valid" time of releases to P-time plus 2 hours some time ago. Used to be one hour, which, given the possibility of very dynamic weather conditions, made more sense, but I know you guys have very little excess bandwidth, and that flight following of flights already released comes well before flight planning of ones you haven't released yet - and for darn good reason.

Actually, I think you guys do an excellent job overall, and I understand that you guys have (53 flights/day :O ) similar staffing pressures to us. It's a team effort, so you watch your back and I'll watch yours.

ZLC and ZHU are both two hours for default drops. Can be changed to a four hour drop, maybe more but I haven't seen it yet.

They can definitely do more. ZID has a 6 hour drop for the Kentucky derby. That's a whole other story, though. Why any pilot would willingly fly into Louisville during derby week is beyond me. Total insanity.

When you're getting paid to fly into Louisville during derby week, you fly into Louisville during derby week. :p

I find a way to manage. The problem is the attention sink flights. My point about the 2 hour Ptime is that I feel in the event a flight is delayed for two hours you should have all new numbers. A lot can happen in two hours and I like to review every part of that release to see what's going on. Some people like to just issue a verbal amendment, and that's fine and legal.
