Question about an x/c

Im a student pilot, and this weekend I did a x/c from KTKI to KCVB (259.3 nm). My instructor said this could be used as all of my x/c's up to my CSEL. Is this right?

Oh and on the way down there I stopped at KACT making it two legs, one of 100nm's and the second 159.3.

Unfortunately, I dont think that is right. You may be able to use it for your commercial XC, but I know for the instrument 250nm trip you have to do approaches at each stop, so unless you did instrument approaches at those airports you stopped at, it wont qualify for the instrument XC.

Any others, if Im wrong, chastise me!!

Right, and I also think for the commercial you have to do instrument approaches too not sure tough read up on that junk when I was a student thats all I was doing! Now I just make everything up! You'll like it up here!

Side note I turn 20 this week

In addition, it must be conducted under IFR. So you need to either have your instructor or an instrument rated pilot present to file IFR for it to be valid.

But it would still be valid for the 50 hrs x/c required for the instrument rating, so the trip was certainly not a waste. I suspect that is what he was referring to, and not the IFR x/c flight.

nope, not even close no instrument approaches. As long as you are flying the airplane.

Talking about commercial, not instrument. Instrument has to be done on IFR plan.

yes
er, no?

don't cha have to have three stops?

You say that you're a student, so I'm assuming that you're currently working on your private cert and not your instrument. If your flgiht was solo or with a CFI then it would count toward the 50 hours of XC PIC time required for the instrument rating and the commercial cert. It sounds like it would also satisfy the day VFR XC requirement for the instrument cert listed in 61.129(a)(3)(iii).

as long as you touch the mains at two different airports and of course the third will be the home base.

You are not solo yet, but if you do it solo then yes, but why do you want to fly that far. You only need to do it one time for the 250 mile round trip. PPL and CSEL is okay.

Wrong 300 one way or 250 round trip.
(i) One cross-country flight of not less than 300 nautical miles total
distance, with landings at a minimum of three points, one of which is a
straight-line distance of at least 250 nautical miles from the original
departure point. However, if this requirement is being met in Hawaii, the
longest segment need only have a straight-line distance of at least 150
nautical miles;and

What was that?

his first leg is over 259.3, then he is going to another airport however far that is. That is going to be like a 400 mile trip.

Never mind I didn't read that last sentence.

One leg has to be over 250 miles. Since you only did 159, then that doesn't count

I did touch the mains at 3 different airports. I dont get what you mean by whats in bold. I went that far to go see my sister, it just happened to work out that I was doing x/c's also.

I confused myself. I thought you flew a straight line of 259 miles, the reason for the bold is why would you want to fly a 500 mile solo cross country? That is where I missed the last sentence of your original post.

I gotcha.

Yeah, it was one way, 259 so about 520 total.

4 hrs on the way down there, 2.5 on the way back. Anybody (except DPA cause I already told him) wanna guess the winds I had?
