Quality of service on US based airlines vs foreign airlines

Re: Quality of service on US based airlines vs foreign airli

I hate flying.
Flew from my home town to Charlotte then on to Providence today.
The TSA ripped my zipper off my bag (not locked) and in the process smashed the face of my gps that was wrapped up in tshirts and under roos in the middle of my bag.
I hate the TSA.

Having been a passenger overseas nothing compares to US service (by that I mean crap service-and I paid more than $100 for my ticket).
It has nothing to do with the cost of a ticket or government subsidies. Most people just dont give a flip about their jobs.

Travelling coach/economy around Europe is comparable to the US. Jetblue knock the socks off any Euro operators though (put live TV on the back of a seat, make everyone happy!).

In my experience Long Haul the Euro operators are better for comfort, on board entertainment and service. (only Long Haul US carrier I've been on is American vs Aer Lingus, BA, Virgin, Lufthansa on the other side)

As it's been said, it's night and day, can't compare them. The reason is culture and business models. An example, if you even bring up age limits for FAs here, you would probably be sued. Other parts of the world it's understood.

Another angle to thing about is that there are forces within the US that would like to dissolve cabotage laws in order to allow foreign carriers to operate point-to-point within the United States.

John Q. Public thinks that it's going to mean he'll be rolling on a Cathay Pacific 747-400 from Phoenix to Las Vegas, white glove champagne service for $99 because, "Far'n carriers are just BETTAH!" but doesn't realize he's probably going to be on a broken-down Air Kazakhstan Tupolev with a 22 year old Bulgarian crew for about, saaaaaaay the same price as US Airways.

Mark my words, the full court press to curtail cabotage laws will rise again and people are under the impression that there are carriers dying to introduce first class service at sub-Greyhound rates from South Bend to Fargo if the evil special interest groups would just step out of the way.

Actually the free market (or such a version as we currently have) works exactly as is intended. The public as a whole has decided that they'd rather save money than to have better service.

That may not be the outcome that we'd like to see, but it doesn't mean that the free market (sic) doesn't work.

Ok, point for Steve on that one. That much is true. In my utopian dream, we fix prices on routes, customers still pays a fair price, gets better service, all of us are under one union/seniority list and airlines don't play the bankruptcy game every few years. A guy can always dream :)

The only real, distinguishing difference Ive notice are the first and business class sections. Coach is still coach. Whats 3 inches more or less leg room on a 2 to 5 hour flight? You get what you pay for.
