Quad City Challenger Ultralight

I am very amazed by this little 1 or 2-seat ultralight. I am one of the guys who like to take it low and slow. I might want one in the future but I have a few questions before making a decision.

1. How much does the Quad City Challenger Ultralight cost?

2. I believe that the ASI is measured in mph, a pet peeve of mine. Could I get one with an ASI measured in knots?

3. Does it have a radio equipped with it? Could I get one with some beacon lights and strobe lights equipped with the ultralight?

4. Could I fly into, out of, or through a Class D airport or maybe a Class C airport if possible?

5. Does the Challenger have an N number? If not, could I put my own N number on the Challenger?

Anyone who knows a lot about the Challenger please reply to me if you can, thanks!

1. Couldn't tell you, but it shouldn't be that high.
2. I'm sure you could get an ASI in knots. It'll be cheaper/easier to leave it as it is, and adapt. But, you could change it, I'm sure.
3. Its not an ultralight. Its an experimental aircraft, which can be operated as light sport. If equipped properly, you could fly IFR in one.
4. Again, if its equipped properly, fly it where ever you want.
5. If you build one, pick the N-number. If you buy one, you can change it, for a fee, I believe.

Maybe 38bat will see this post. I seem to recall him having one on floats, which I think would be a blast to fly. I just need to find a way to fly one sometime.

Does the Challenger II Ultralight have a compartment to store your baggage? Can it also be used to fly cross countries?

1. Used or new? Challenger I or II? Clipped wing or straight?

2. You could, but it'll just cost more $

3. Depends on the airplane. If you get one with radio, then it will have it, if you build your own you pick. Most of the time its just a handheld radio in the airplane, though.

4. If having the properly equpied, yup.

5. Buy it as part 103 Challenger I or as an expiremential Challenger I or II.

The challengers are fun airplanes. I've flown a Challenger I so I'm not sure about the Challenger II, but it was a very smooth, stable, fun plane to buzz around low and slow in.

I'd love to build a Challenger II on amphibious floats, and put a Dynon glass EFIS in there, with something like a Garmin 300XL. Nothing better than IFR in something like a little Challenger.
