Memo sent out today, the first 6 nextgens are staying in EWR and the remaining 9 will go to IAH. First revenue flight in Feb 2011

Ya'll gonna do IAH-ASE with those things?

Heard from an Xjet guy on the commute yesterday that the plan was that with a fuel stop somewhere...that's going to be a brutally long flight.

Aspen requires a lot of specialized procedures and training (at least for us; not sure if it would be required with the Q400--I sure hope it would). I wonder if Colgan has that ironed out yet.

I heard that Colgan is gonna be flying the Q-9-Hondo (which is the next-next-gen Q) from EWR to points east such as Dublin, London and possibly Paris. While the aircraft will only seat 76 people, it will be as large as a 737-900 in order to carry the amount of fuel necessary to make Europe part of the North American "region." Additionally, a crew of 5 will be required to fly the thing because it will take 234 hours to get there; just a tad slower than the Titanic.

Continental pilots will be grieving this as a violation of CAL's scope clause, though an anonymous ASA pilot described the announcement as, "Baller," and he is, "Glad to be able to help the company in any way necessary to fly a larger aircraft."

Another Acey pilot, who was reportedly on furlough for nearly 2 years, was only heard mumbling "STFD."

And the flight crews will get in trouble with the company and subsequently the national media for flying over square, retracting the flaps on landing, and canceling IFR before the gate. :)

Heh ... just doing on twiddling of thumbs and I figure the Q400 would burn about 7,700 lbs to make IAH-ASE (915 nm straight-line). Add on 3,500 lbs for 75 more minutes and you're at 11,200 lbs (just a hair over full tanks). If you tweak the performance numbers you could just make the concept of captain's fuel moot.

Off to On would be just about 3:15.
