Thanks for the response, the big concern my wife has is if they live in a "protected" community and other outside of work things. Do you have any light to be shed on that area from your friend's experience?
When Qatar Airways attended our last job fair in PHX, the recruiter said he loved living in Doha. 4 out of 5 people living in Doha are expats. Google "Pearl City." There is a big difference in the lifestyle of a narrow body vs a wide body pilot. On the narrow body equipment, it is a lot of out and backs. The problem is the out and backs are in the middle of the night.
Qatar Airways needs to hire 700 pilot for 2012 and 2013. There are approx 1400 pilots on the seniority list. Upgrade is running 2 years at Qatar. 5 star airline when it comes to passenger service. First class passengers have their own lounge (separate from business class). Passengers are taking directly from the lounge to the aircraft in a 7 series BMW. They have won the SkyTrax award multiple times.
Do some research and ask questions to pilots who work for the company. Take your wife to Doha and see if she likes the lifestyle.

They worked for a university that was 'exported' to give the locals a quality education... so it was a little bit different than the whole airline thing. They had housing provided in an expat community. You can hire a live-in nanny/housekeeper for about $200 a month. Each kid brought you a $7000/year stipend along with the free education. That sort of thing is what they told me about the place.
They also said that there was a lot to do - and they traveled a lot. When I was going to interview, my best resource was chatting with the pilots on pprune and asking people that worked there about the lifestyle. I was all for going... except for the blond haired/blue eyed very, very christian wife's worries about being left alone - especially with not knowing anyone in the whole country. (as our friends were leaving as I would have been coming in)
