Qatar invading US market?

The jobs are not any harder than others. They are more prestigious and pay more so guys and gals lay in bed at night worrying that someone is going to steal THEIR seat. So the race to the bottom...err, the top is one fraught with danger and full of sharp knives. One may start their career by working at a slime bucket outfit or even pay for their job but as they move up the ladder they realize it makes it easier (but it doesn't, not in reality) to keep going onwards and upwards if they start dropping a landmine here and there. So, people only want ALPA pilots hired at ALPA airlines. You get elitist types that buy into the idea that you must act like a sycophant to whoever works for a "career destination" so you can get the all important and magical INTERNAL REC (praise thy name!) instead of being a professional that is respected by his coworkers and jumpseaters.
Or not. Whatever. I'm just a pilot. What do I know?

Man, that was depressing.

Isn't it though? I really wonder where things went wrong if that's the view that some people have. Or, is it just the 5% rule like anywhere else?

I have no idea.

If I was rolling into work that grumpy, I'd have to ask myself what I've done, recently, to improve the situation.

If the answer is "nothing", well, the problem isn't the industry.

Shirley you didn't jump to the conclusion that just because I post a comment on a message board that my I'm a grumpy person and that my life is a steaming cesspool?
I merely made an observation. I only forayed into the 121 world for about 3.5 years and in that time I saw some interesting things. Between what I read on here and what I've seen with my own eyes and what I hear from friends still in 121 I come to conclusions. Which is why I contract. Overseas.

It's all perspective.

Its a good industry with a lot of mossy corners and mystery poop/urine behind couches.

Like every other industry, but somewhat less I think.

There is a lot of opportunity these days if you've prepared yourself.

I know a lot of "lifers" who are grumpy that haven't changed it up or are sitting around waiting for acquisitions and mergers that may never come.

I'd actually really like to see a system where if someone makes it on to x amount of "do not fly" lists then pro standards has to get involved.

Like the southwest LGA accident, every airline has the few pilots where if you found out they balled one up, the response would be "oh...well that makes sense."

That's unacceptable.
I would support this.

I totally agree. But there also has to be the same list for FO's. There are problem children in both seats.
