\"Q airways\" and \"D-ATIS\"

quick questions that I have been asked recently and I cannot seem to figure out satisfactorily:

1) Jeppesen Q Airways. What are they, where do you find them? I think they are GPS airways?

2) "D-ATIS" printed on a Jep approach in the ATIS box. More info please???

For those that answer, please give your reference so I can go back to it myself.

Thanks all:):)

Re: \"Q airways\" and \"D-ATIS\"

D-Atis is short for departure atis. It will only give info relevent to departures. There will also be an arrival atis.
These are usually found at busier C and B airports.

Q routes are RNAV routes with navigation predicated on the use of GNSS and FMS DME/DME or other appropriate navigation sensor solutions. This was found in the AFD in the preffered route section after the high altitude section.

Actually, its Digital ATIS.

Re: \"Q airways\" and \"D-ATIS\"

If I remember correctly digital ATIS will actually print a written copy of the ATIS to an ACARS system.

True. Airliners use ACARS (usually have a cockpit printer too), business jets use AFIS. Basically the same type unit.

We can get ATIS/ASOS on the FMS screen, as we as receive departure clearances. Nice thing to have when 20 people are trying to get it at the same time.

The Citation X, Sovereigns and Falcons can even download color radar maps (moving too) as well as text wx info on a flip down video monitor.

Re: \"Q airways\" and \"D-ATIS\"

D-ATIS is my best friend. We don't get a "print out", but we do get the ATIS broadcast on our ACARS. PDC's are my second favorite friend, PDC stands for Pre Departure Clearance but what it really is, is, getting your ATC clearance over the ACARS. No need to call clearance delivery.

Re: \"Q airways\" and \"D-ATIS\"

My company doesnt have PDC, and Ive never used it, so I dont know. But seems like I hear guys calling clearance all the time, LGA comes to mind, and telling clearnace they have there PDC and Squwak code, and clerance double checks or something. Always seemed like a waste.

PS.Oh yeah concerning ACARS, 5 Early!

Re: \"Q airways\" and \"D-ATIS\"

Some airports have you call Clearance more just to put you in sequence, then you monitor ground instead of calling them and congesting that freq.

Hopefully that picture will come out. That's an ATIS display on an ACARS screen. We get D-ATIS through the ACARS on our FMS in the ERJ, and looks a bit different. Also, we don't have printers like we did in the Saab, so we just write down the pertinent notes.

Regarding PDC... we use PDC at a lot of our airports. When we have PDC, our clearance will be automatically sent to our aircraft about 15-20 minutes before departure time. It's also sent to the gate in a hard copy print, so the agent will normally bring it down to us with the paperwork for the flight attendant. Most airports don't make you call clearance, but some like Houston do just for departure sequencing. Places like STL and ORD call it Ground Metering.

In my last four day trip, I flew to only one airport without D-ATIS or PDC! Crazy!
