Putin claims T-50 superior to F-22

I still say the Air Force was criminally incompetent wasting 15 YEARS taking it from a prototype to operational units.

The B-29 was every bit as big a technological leap and it went from prototype to 3000 airframes in 2 1/2. For a peacetime comparision, the B-52 went from prototype to first opperational unit in 3 years.

In fairness the Marines were just as bad with the V-22.

It looks a lot like a Russian version of the Northrup/McDonnell Douglas YF-23.

Guess Putin's able to say that based on all the time he's logged in both jets.

Out in the backwoods, hunting without his shirt on!

I guess I shouldn't tease him about that, he'd probably put a hit out on me and claim my "untimely departure" was some unforeseen circumstance! :)

I heard the same thing concerning the Mig-29 versus the F-15. What is the F-15C's kill ratio against the Mig-29? Something like 9 or 10 to 0. The Israeli's supposedly bagged two of them as well with their F-15's. I guess my point is it's not always about the airplane.

I think the term you're looking for is "Congress" or "Department of Defense".

It wasn't the USAF that slow-rolled the YF-22 to F-22 process -- it was the people who were controlling the USAF's bank account.

Don't you love how it's always the services that get the bad rap for exploding budgets and behind schedule projects? If Congress and the DoD could ever get their fecal matter straight, the military branches would be more than happy to get their equipment on time and below budget.

Of course, the AF would just use the extra money to buy flat screen TV's and new desks for everyone's office every year. ;)

The Russians don't have a lot of money to get this thing into production. It won't be in production for quite a while. The T-50 is not even a conforming prototype from what I read. Sweetman and others have pointed out numerous flaws in the current T-50 which show it is not stealthy.

WHEN it gets in service it may be better than the F-35 which is reportedly less everything compared to the -22. And too the story is that at a fighter conference shortly after the -29 went into service and was hosed, some criticized the fighter for lack of aft vis, lack of agility, lack of systems. I can't remember the MiG test pilot's name but his comment was, "It is not all the machine. Sometimes it is like pigs wearing a Rolex."

I just generated a statistic that the Air Force loses 3.4 million man-hours per year from airmen trying to create passwords that meet the strict requirements for such top secret sites such as mypay and afportal.

15 or more characters.
three chinese characters.
one number and special character
One backward Russian e
Keys can't touch each other on the keyboard.
Can't form a word in any language
Can't form a word backwards, inverted, or diagonally (watch the backwards russian e... it can hose you)

Oh, and you're not supposed to write down these ridiculous passwords because it's a security hazard.

Good game.

If I remember correctly, congress generally won't fund a project, just fund that year's worth of the project, and you don't know if you're going to get next year's funding, which increases costs because you can't just go get it done. Something like that?

Seriously? That's insane. Especially since if you use a 3 attempt lockout, it's almost impossible to brute force a password.

I forgot one thing regarding the chinese characters:

You've got to be careful to make sure that the chinese characters don't make sense when placed together...... so basically just try to copy someone's chinese character tattoo: people never verify that they make sense.

And the blonde who had a password of donaldduckgoofyminniemickeymousescroogeelmerfuddatlanta.

She was told to create a password with at least 6 characters and one capital.

Or purchase sand in the USA to get hauled by C-141 to Kuwait for the two bases there, since the sand already in Kuwait wasn't the quality needed for volleyball courts.

True story.
