Purdue vs. ERAU

Purdue is cold during the winter months. ERAU has nice weather in Florida and cold in Arizona.
Both are expensive.
Purdue has a well known engineering department.

We've got football, girls (some would dispute that - Chris), and you'll actually get to fly. 727 sim (youll get to fly it - a lot)... good program.. just make sure you REALLY want to get a DEGREE in AVIATION... *cough*

I went to ERAU. My friends went to Purdue. Thankfully I never flew with Riddle, but if I had to compare the 2 flight schools.. I would say that Purdue pilots fly a bit better 
(someone at Riddle is going to shoot me for that)
Like AMD87 said... Purdue is a real college. You've gotta have the grades and the dedication to get into it. ERAU's standards are that your parents checkbook is big enough.
I'm not bashing ERAU, I'm just saying that if I had to do it all over again i would've done it differently.

I got accepted to both for engineering. I went to Riddle. After a year of calc. i went to Aerosci. Both will check that box on the application. Purdue is more of a typical university. Big Ten sports, girls, crowded dorms, parties, and the such. Riddle has flying dorks and those who completely hate flying and hate the school they goto or at least thats what they say. We have good sports teams. We're not NCAA but kick the crap out of any team we do play. Daytona like any town, gets old after awhile. But whats college without a good roadtrip. I spent alot of money there (mom and dad didn't just write the checks) but I also had a good experience and met alot of good people. Any college experience is what you make of it. You could goto a community college with a flying program and have the time of your life and one day be a FedEX Captain. You can accomplish the same at Purdue or Riddle. But you can also end up doing nothing by going to Purdue or Riddle. Its all on how you apply yourself and pursue your career goals. I would go visit both. Don't buy into the crap they are going to feed you in the tour but more see if you'd fit in there and if thats a place you could see spending four years of your life.

"Parties" in West Lafayette are primarily frat in nature (hang out in a basement with your favorite top 20 hits over and over) or 95% guys (hang out in an apartment with your favorite top 20 hits over and over).
If you're looking for a party, you want neigh Purdue nor ERAU

If you count Chess or Rubik's Cube Racing as sports then you're correct. Other than that our sports teams suck.
100% agree with you there. It's all about what you make out of college.

Purdue has a very solid aviation program that won't con you into thinking you'll be hired by a major right after graduation.
The experience has been great. The 727 sim and King Air time is not to be found anywhere else, no matter what they say.
If you want to go to a school with a solid aviation program, with opportunities to major/minor in non-aviation related studies, look into Purdue.
That said, it's not cheap - and it's in Indiana.

Well the DB Baseball team is preseason ranked 3rd in the nation and the Basketball team is currently 5th in the nation. I believe that's pretty good. The National Championship banners and appearences banners hanging from the rafters also point to the sports teams not "sucking". Again they are not NCAA. This is due to title nine and not being able to have enough women's sports. I went to a preseason basketball game last year against the UF Gator's who eventually won the NCAA Championship. We outscored them in the second half.
As far as my comments on Purdue. That is based on my visits to the campus and the friends I know who go there. Just because Chris isn't getting laid and go's to gay parties doesn't mean thats the norm.
If your going to select a college based on parties and gettng laid you have some growing up to do anyways.Chris_Ford

Flight men: ~250
Flight women: ~15
Like I've said before, there's basically a 90% chance you won't find your future wife here (unless you settle). However, it's not difficult to have female friends, but you won't make them in your flight classes. Simple mathematics.
As for "if your [sic] going to select a college based on parties and getting laid. . ." remark, I disagree. Pick a school that will be the four funnest [sic] years of your life. College academics are a joke if you're capable of thought and self-motivation. So go somewhere where you'll wake up in someone's front yard and not remember a thing about last night, because you only go to college once, and you can grow up afterwards.
Being grown up isn't half as fun as growing up.
Might be better to let someone who has done both make that judgement call, eh?

Actually, I do disagree. I'm having a lot more fun as a full fledged adult (thinking maybe I finally qualify now) then I did in high school / college life. And I had a pretty darn good "growing up". Lucky I survived it.Do you disagree?
The answer will probably be different for every individual, though.
Enjoying life and having fun is all about what you make of it, not what you do, or what you have, or what happens to you. It is internal. Sometimes it takes some "maturing" to figure that out, and a lot of people never do.
