Puking before takeoff

Before takeoff check is complete, FA's call up and say they've got one standing hold tight. After about 3 minutes you call back to them ask them if everything is alright, what we need to do to help them. They tell you a passenger has thrown up all over the seat, and pax next to her.

Next move is your's captain! What you gonna do? Go back to the gate, get it cleaned up before you bail? Keep the airline ontime and make the pax suffer?

By the way, 2 hour flight to where you're going.

I could have sworn this question has come up before. :)

Either way, go back to the gate. Seems straightforward to me. Things could escalate in the air.

Fly into a fit of rage. Open the cabin door, and toss both pax out onto the taxiway. Continue with flight.

You wouldn't believe how many pax and gate agents were like "Just go"

Part B:

"Pax who threw up comes back to plane, jeans stained with puke all over, shirt turned inside out. She wants to just get back on after we're done getting the seats clean."

any thoughts?

Probably not gonna happen....the people sitting next to her are going to have quite the fun 2 hrs.

Eh, just asking a few questions it turns out she has a change of clothes in the carryon. Took a little coaxing but she agreed finally.

So she would rather have gone in vomit covered clothes than just change? Kick her off for being ridiculous. She could be a security threat! :bandit:

Go back to the gate and get it dealt with- it's a biohazard, and you're still on the ground. Not to mention- forcing the pax to deal with that for hours when they don't have to and forcing the FA to clean that up, THEN serve food and drink= no bueno.

The passenger is either seriously ill or drunk. Off she goes. We apologize, lady, but legally we can't take a drunk, and medically exposing the other passengers to whatever you might be carrying is highly irresponsible. Possibly criminal.

I concede the possibility of morning sickness, but I'm assuming a pregnant woman would expect this, and have the sick sack readily available instead of churfing all over herself.

Back to the gate. Not even up for debate.

Yes, being on time is important, but when it comes to safety and something that can severely affect the comfort of the passengers our on time performance is the least of my concerns.

To me that's an easy choice. Back to the gate we go......deplane, get the aircraft properly cleaned and then we'll be on our way again.

Grab the crash axe, kill the puker and the one she just turned before they can infect the rest of the cabin. Taxi the plane through the blast fence to the employee parking lot, get in the battlewagon and retire to the bunker.

Bonus points if you're wearing the outbreak monkey suit style PBE for all of that.

Ok guys, THIS was the correct answer. Buncha slack jawed ....

I wonder why no one asked the FA if the FA was comfortable with re-boarding the pax.
