***PUBNAT4***

nathanw,

Any ideas on how you kept up with the letter factory would be awesome, because i have read that many people struggled with the questions.:)

They ask, every time, if all the letters on the belts were moved into boxes and the full boxes removed, what letters would you need to fill up the remaining boxes. So, as letters appeared on the belts, I would mentally keep track of what boxes would fill up. I actually kept whispering to myself what letters I would need (beyond what was on the belts) to fill up the boxes. Also, they ask which belts have the lowest or highest access line (there's a line across every belt that you must wait for the letter to cross before you can pick it up). At the beginning of each one I would use the fingers on my left hand to make the same shape as the lines, i.e. the fully extended finger was the highest line, the fully bent finger the lowest, etc. They also ask which one's going the fastest or slowest sometimes. That one I just memorized as best I could.

Did access lines, speeds, etc change while you were doing the letter factory or did it stay the same and then restart and change those variables?

Nathanw,

I appreciate the help, i need all the help i can get as i am new to this air traffic controller information. i was weeks away from joining the navy as an ATC when i found out about the OTS job posts. i did well on the ASVAB scoring in the low nineties, but these tests do not have that much in common. i think the min. ASVAB score for a navy ATCer is 66. My test is July 9th, and i am shooting for a 100, but will be happy with anything over 85.

After every set of questions it starts over with new speeds and lines (and no letters or boxes, full box queue).

The best advice I can give is to learn 10-key typing (for the scan test), get a good night's sleep the night before, eat breakfast that morning and take the breaks they offer you. After every section of the test you can take as long a break as you want. Each section itself is timed, but you have a total of 8 hours I think to finish the test. I got some ice water and just walked around the hotel to clear my head between sections.

I think I got a 97 on the ASVAB back in 96 (I joined the AF in 97). Yeah, I'm 29. Tick tock.

Nathan, do you find that the math guide posted on here features the only types of problems we'll be given? I felt very confident in them all (to an alarming degree), and don't want to be side-blasted.

I intend to order the green book next week, but in the meantime...

Hey there peeps... anything yet for ya'll that applied to this one?

There will not be anything for this one for a while considering the previous announcement hasn't even been notified to take the AT-SAT yet, unless for some reason they group the two together.

Is this for off the street? All the availible jobs that I see say that you must have previous Air Traffic Control Experience.

PUBNAT4 closed on 6/30, but like venividibitchy said, there should probably be a new one opening in a few days...

I applied to PUBNAT4 as well and will apply for PUBNAT5 today. I will keep you guys posted if i see any progress. GOODLUCK to you all. :hiya:

I applied for the PUBNAT4 and I am waiting to hear back. I just noticed that PUBNAT5 is now open. Any ideas as to whether or not I should also apply to this one as well? Man, that wait is what kills 'ya! :panic: Good luck everyone!!!

Must we say it in EVERY friggin' thread?

Re-apply, re-apply, re-apply until you have a tentative offer letter. The head folks in OKC told us to. PERIOD.

Don't take it personally, Talon, Ven gets cranky sometimes. Just irritated after waiting for weeks and weeks on end.

Yes, you should apply to every one that comes up, as long as you're qualified (so just the PUBNATs if you're off the street like many of us). Multiple applications don't count against you, and should you get caught up at a later point in the process -- for example, you applied PUBNAT3, took the AT-SAT, and then put down only one place for your geo preference and nothing was available -- you may be considered again in a later announcement.

With all the repeated questions we see here, I've been thinking about making a big FAQ / guide to the whole application process. Only problem is that I haven't even gotten an AT-SAT callback yet, so there wouldn't be much for me to say from my own personal experience. If things go right over the new few months though, I'll put it up here so we can just link people to it when we get common (but important) questions.
