PUBHI

Well I work at a flight school here in hawaii, and I know that those areas are often times rented for a cheap price (400-600), per month. Since the tower is actually located on Hickam AFB, those two places are convenient. Moanaloa, has apartments, but they are a little more expensive (600-1200) a month, but it is also very close to the airport, in fact a little closer, I would say to the base. It depends on what you are looking for. Once on base the drive to the tower, since you have to drive around the airport takes about another 15-20 minutes.

thanks for that info tracer.

it's going to be a scramble.

does anyone know how the transition from OKC to Hawaii works with regards to timing from Graduation to first day of work?

good question. i was thinking i would drive my car from okc to los angeles after graduation to put it on a container ship. will take 2 days or so

I thought about doing that, but its freaking expensive to do so. The money that I would spend on shipping it, even from CA, could put a good chunk of money down, if not outright buy a good, and nice, used car.

just my .02

zz :)

(ps, i told you I would be back to haunt the forums. ;))

Shipping vehicle to Honolulu:
Matson (out of LA)- $1000-$1100
PASHA (out of San Diego?)- Probably less than $1000

Gas tank needs to be less than 1/4 full at drop off.

Oh wow that's not too bad at all. I would definitely ship it if I had to go to HI.

I believe it's all up to your manager. I'm sure most of them will understand if you have to do all that travel.

yeah.. basically show up with as much money as possible, and get as much time as possible to get moved in. ugh this is going to be a logistical nightmare.

Today is the day folks! Im getting ready to go to my PEPC over here in New York. From the people who already went to theirs earlier this week, I spoke with some of them, and they said it went very smoothly. I hope mine will go the same.

lol oops i wrote the wrong response in the wrong thread!

good luck! let us know how it goes!

TOL in hand, now I can begin to wait for a while again. ALRIGHT!!

The interview went great, I interviewed with the manager from ONT. Although he really didn't seem too interested in talking with me, he seemed pleased with my answers. Honestly, he looked like he didn't really want to be there, he kept staring off while he was asking me questions, as well as when I was giving him my answers. I think he was looking at the other people being interviewed and was rushing to get me out of the interview portion first. I actually finished second, because as soon as he saw someone else stand up and congratulate his applicant, he quickly (very quickly and abruptly) wrapped things up with me and sent me on my way. It was kind of weird, but I didn't really think much more about it.

Next I was sent to the HR and signed a few papers and given my TOL. That took all of about two minutes for that.

After that I was sent to start my medical portion. I did the vision test, then sent to go do the urine test, and get my vitals checked.

Then my escort, instead of taking me back to the medical side, I stayed in the same and went to security, where I got my fingerprints done and I signed my E-QIP forms, which they had a copy of already.

THIS NEXT PART IS IMPORTANT:

At the security station, for us going to HCF, the initial E-QIP forms sent were only the forms SF-85P. However, because HCF is located on a military base, we require an additional clearance and actually need to complete the SF-86P forms instead, which is a little more thorough than the aforementioned paperwork. This was important because, since they had not caught their mistake before my PEPC, I had to later come back to this station and REDO my E-QIP, which took me about two hours to go over again. SO MAKE SURE WHEN YOU RECIEVE YOUR E-QIP, YOU HAVE THE PROPER FORMS.

Besides that, I just continued on with the process, completed the rest of the medical, (hearing test, EKG, physical exam with the doc.), then went to take the MMPI, which took about an hour.

After that, I was done, and taken back to check out and left.

Again, really quick, about 4 hours.

no class dates are given specifically, they did say that they were scheduled out to the end of april. Also, they said to probably not expect a class date until may-ish. However, it is possible for people to drop out of an earlier class date, in which people can be pushed up for an earlier date, but it was made clear that it can not be sooner than 45 days from your PEPC.

You interviewed with Greg?!

He's such an AWESOME guy!:rawk:

nothing yet. Last thing i heard was three weeks ago when i got an email response from hr saying that everything had cleared but security. since then, i've emailed back twice and haven't heard back from him yet.

about two weeks ago i took a group of people on a tower tour though and introduced myself as a future atc'er with them. they seemed extremely busy, and they were currently training many people who had just finished classes at OKC.

Haven't heard much back with regards to everything clearing but I'm about a month behind you.. I was at March PEPC in Chicago - but I do know that my HR rep responded to an email I sent with the last bit of the TOL paperwork, thanking me for sending it so they're cranking away as usual.

-update- just spoke to another rep who said I have a lot of clearances - just waiting on the MMPI and a couple others to come through.

We're close! (but don't hold your breath)

Couldn't get in contact with the HR rep from Aviation Careers who has the lowdown and/or the authority to disclose that information to me (I'm sure all the PubHi'ers are aware of who it is and you're used to by now as well).. but needless to say it sounds like we're trucking a long just fine!
