I've opened and closed flight plans with flight service while operating 121, but I had no idea you could file, apparently you can.

I didn’t even have to do that much. Just look at the paper release and call WX Brief to put the plan into the system so we could get a clearance.

Years ago, occ got hit by lightning and it took out their computers for an evening. I was doing PHL to ERI that night (shows how long ago it was) and captain I was flying with just pulled up the release from the previous day, checked the weights, filed us as JIA 1 with a wxbrief, told dispatch we were going and we left. It was a different time.
