PSA and CASS

BobDDuck

Island Bus Driver
Not sure if it will help anybody's commute but PSA is in CASS as of Monday the 24th. Glad we can actually help out now. Keep in mind, the -200 jumpseat can become weight restricted pretty easily, but the -700 is a lock most of the time.

Is the -200 more apt to be weight restricted on short hops from say ATL-CLT than longer trips from say PHL-MSP?

Depends. The restriction normally is due to landing weight, not take off weight. As long as there is no alternate you are generally ok. The problem is that the CG of that airplane is pretty messed up and adding a jumpseater with out a whole lot of bags in the back (about 2 for every pax) requires a few hundred pounds of ballest. Not generally a problem unless we are bumping up against our max flightplan weight.

AWAC is updating its W&B ACARS unit to allow for the moving of our carry on bags (which are assumed to be in the cockpit bin, although that's only about 50% of the time) among other things. We've been told that for every pound we take from the front, that saves adding 3 pounds of baggage. We haven't been given a time frame for when this will happen.

Like bob? said, the issue is with the amount of checked/carryon bags. If there aren't very many bags and you add a jumpseater, I've seen times when we needed 600 lbs. of ballast to be legit, and that's even after "seeing" a few kids up front...

With our new electronic W&B unit, it makes determining this stuff easier and quicker.

Where is this "cockpit" bin on the -200? The only one I know of is the cargo bin in the back. I know the -900 had those two bins up front to put carry-ons, but I don't know about the -700. I like how Bombardier makes all their sales performance data based on a %MAC you'll never see in real world apps. :)

I'm referring to the small closet behind the coat rack, in front of the galley (but accessible if the cockpit door were closed). You can fit both carry ons (CA and FO) in the closet.

Might have been an option, I dunno.

stupid question but you bobDDuck work for PSA? I have been thinking about applying to them when the times are right since i'm from ohio, and just curious how the company is?

They aren't hiring right now. The last class was Jan06 and it was really small. There has been talk of classes off and on for a while now but they keep getting pushed farther and farther out. We are pretty much running month to month due to not knowing what the grand plan for Airways Express is. As far as a company to work for? There certainly are better ones out there. There are also worse. PM me if you have specific questions.

Your CRJ's (I think) are pre 9/11 so the door was modified and installed later. We don't have the closet, we have a small cubby.

The cubby is pretty small... However there is also some good sized closet space behind the closet. Unfortunatly the door is really too small to make use of the space inside.

Edit: That made no sense. I meant there is additional stowage space between the closet and the back of the galley wall. However, the door acessing this space is too small to actually use the space.

Ah. There's a few of 'em that have INCREDIBLY small doors (WTF were the canuks thinking?!?) but most have a door that allows for the carryon's to fit. The "closet" isn't more than 4 feet tall, however.

We have those really small doors on our planes. Decent size closet, tiny doors. Gotta love how they think up in Canadia.

True, but the CRJ is lacking other cool features (such as stuff to blow the crap out of other stuff) and hence, the closet is a big deal.:)

Edit: Hey, I'm old Skool now! Sweet.
