PSA Airlines Updates

Hi, if you have anything post here.

What I am really interested in is whether or not we have a preferential hiring agreement, or are we working on one, with a company like Mesaba.

Not to my knowledge. Although I got a call for an interview with Mesaba by just doing the online stuff. I couldnt accept due to current circumstances at home though. Really there has been no public word from our MEC about how they are trying to help our furloughed pilots at all. Sad but true. At least to my knowledge. Perhaps others could shed light.

MEC's hands are tied. Company doesn't want us back, so we can't come back, few other airlines are hiring, few of the furloughed pilots meet higher and more selective requirements to go anywhere else. All in all, a bleak situation all around.

Does anyone know of ANY furloughed PSA pilots that were able to get jobs at other regionals?

I'm sure folks were able to get jobs in 135/91/CFI, but have any of the furloughees been hired by another 121 regional?

Has anyone actually been invited to an interview?

Doesn't want us back?

They are maybe slightly understaffed if not just right for what they want. PSA runs WICKED lean. 90 hour lines and very few reserves means less money for the company to pay. If we had as many pilots per plane as say, express jet or Republic, the story may be different. Instead, 90 hours per line holder and a max 15-16 days off a month for a few guys. Company would rather fly the hell out of the current pilots than a) admit they furloughed too many and b) pay for extra reserve coverage.

The *other* Meyer(s) got a call back from 9E and I think an interview offer from Mesaba.

Nobody from the 1/7/08 new hire class has heard anything, as far as I know, and I've been doing my best to find out. I'm not in a rush to dump PSA, but I don't want to be sitting here, closer to not being current everday.

Thanks.

I was told I was being hired to replace J4Js. I was told a lot of things when I signed on at PSA.

We have the same number of planes? Minus two for spares? I'm not sure, I'm new. Minus two for spares, and thats about 20 pilots, and I'm 20 deep.

Oil was about $100 a barrel in January of 2008.

It's $96 today.

Oh well it's capitalism, it's their company, and I'm labor.

Disgruntled, yes.

That's the problem, no attrition because no one has anywhere to go. And without growth, we are at the mercy of Mainline because until they take their 60 or so poolies from PSA, we will be locked out of the party.

Hey at least you don't have to work right beside the runway and watch PSA planes go by all day. Wow if that's not a pathetic statement I don't know what is. I'll just go back to drinking my beer now. Oh yeah, how are you Ray?

And with Airways being what it is right now, even when they do start hiring again, how many of those 70+ guys do you think are going to be even remotely interested in going over there?

Meyer,
I havent heard anything except that the other Pablo posted about an invite. On reserve in TYS I have not flown very much at all in September unfortunately. A 3 day trip and a 3 leg one day out and back. I havent picked up open time, nor have I been junior manned. I get the feeling that they are holding reserves for emergencies such as last minute calloffs or legality issues. In other words, they are junior manning the heck out of people and keeping the reserves for reserves.

I am perplexed by the entire situation.

Hey man, pretty good, how about you? I know what you mean though. Flew thru CLT to get to MCO a few weeks back and watching the PSA planes taxi and take off did hurt quite a bit.

Deadstick, not sure on the exact numbers. I thought I had heard 60 but 70+ could be it too.

Ethan is right though, how many people do you see jumping for Airways even IF things were to get better? Count on being recalled through normal attrition and not through a large miracle send me down.

BTW, kind of interesting to note, PSA has hired every year since 1985, including 2001 and early 2002. Just a bright spot in a dismal forum :D
