Prowler crash

All three were young, 2 of them under 30. I know Naval Aviators and NFOs can be flying in the fleet only a couple years after graduating college but man, seeing it in print after something like this hits home.

They very frequently fly with only 3 crewmembers, ie 1 pilot and 2 ECMO's. I'm not one to speculate, but it wouldn't be surprised if that was the entire crew.

At the RAG the training flights are generally divided between front seat hops and back seat hops. VR/IR routes are generally front seat training, so they normally have a 3 man crew unless the flight ends up on an EW range, then they'll add a NFO instructor to the back cockpit. I went through VAQ-129 in 1992 and lost two of my classmates and an instructor in a mishap in El Centro. It never gets easier.

RIP to my fellow Vikings.
